OK, the etrust scan did not find anything. Could not get Housecall scan to work. New HJT log posted below. Computer has now become almost unusable. Swaps to disk constantly. Takes forever to do the smallest task.

Download AproposFix by Swandog46
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe
Save it to your desktop or to another folder of its own, but do NOT run it yet!
Now reboot your computer in Safe Mode! (You must be in safe mode or this fix will not work.)
Once in Safe Mode, double-click aproposfix.exe which will give you a chice of where to unzip/install the program to). This is called the Destination folder in the window that popsup. So either install it to the Desktop or the folder where you downloaded the aproposfix.exe file to. It will create a new folder named aproposfix. Open the aproposfix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to run the fix. Follow the prompts.
When the tool is finished, reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file that has been created in the aproposfix folder.

Click \start\run\then type in or paste in
sfc /scannow
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run sfc.
If sfc discovers that a protected file has been overwritten, it retrieves the correct version of the file from the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder, and then replaces the incorrect file.

OK, I think we may be able to close out this thread. I had to reformat and re-install Windows XP HE SP2 over the weekend. I will finish up installation with several spyware/malware programs and antivirus software. Computer runs much faster and is "back to normal". Here is the latest HJT log:
