I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmmsm.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmmsm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [desktop] C:\WINDOWS\System32\idemlog.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"


Open C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmmsm.exe <--Delete File
Open C:\WINDOWS\System32\idemlog.exe <--Delete File

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

the adware toolband is gone! disappeared after i checked the 2 keys and then deleted the idemlog.exe file.
It wouldn't let me delete c:\windows\system32\dmmsm.exe-said it was being used but I was able to delete in safe mode
That key is still showing up in HJT even tho it has been deleted from c:\windows\system32

Click on Open Misc Tools
Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it:

Click on the Back button to exit Process Manager

Now, back at the main screen of HijackThis, proceed to Scan.
and put a check by these.

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Thank you so much. I don't have any of the software you mentioned-Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD, but will download one of them. I have an idea it was my husband's love affair with the porn sites that started this. But he'll get over it if the software puts his sites in the restricted zone or he can get his own computer.
