Anti-virus continues to not update, but it is working again.

I don't know why it doesn't work. Can you uninstall it and then reinstall?

Unless you have a Epson printer, fix these.
I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: EpsonToolBandKicker Class - {E99421FB-68DD-40F0-B4AC-B7027CAE2F1A} - C:\Program Files\EPSON\EPSON Web-To-Page\EPSON Web-To-Page.dll

O3 - Toolbar: EPSON Web-To-Page - {EE5D279F-081B-4404-994D-C6B60AAEBA6D} - C:\Program Files\EPSON\EPSON Web-To-Page\EPSON Web-To-Page.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EPSON Stylus C45 Series] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_S4I3T1.EXE /P23 "EPSON Stylus C45 Series" /O6 "USB001" /M "Stylus C45"

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty Recycle Bin

My printer is an Epsom. PC-cillin has just picked up the same WORM_SDBOT.BUY virus again... Infected file is C:\WINDOWS\System32\msconfig32.exe I had a look at the PC-cillin webpage and I think the reason that I can't get updates because its EOL is Dec 2005, although it is a month early...: "The End of Life (EOL) for PC-cillin 2002 global support is December 2005. EOL covers physical shipment, email/phone support, and pattern/engine updates." I didn't think to check that before. I will post a HJT log in a few minutes because HJT is scanning then freezing.

I scanned again with Ewido, but it didn't pick anything up.

It has started freezing and doing the really slow shutdowns again.

Here is the latest HJT log:

Lets see if msconfig32.exe is in the registry.

Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

click Start>Run and type regedit tap enter key.

Regedit will open. Make sure My Computer is highlighted. At the top of the window click edit> Find> then copy and paste the following into the window.

msconfig32.exe

Then click find now.
When you find the entry right click on it and select delete, answer ok at the prompt.
Next, press "F3" to continue searching, if another instance is found, repeat the above steps, until you see the "completed searching" message.

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

I ran RegSeeker and deleted 421 items. My programs all seem to be working fine.

However...

As I was typing this a message popped up saying that "PC-cillin detected a virus"

Real-time Scan:

Infected file: C:\\WINDOWS\system32\msconfig32.exe
Virus name: WORM_SDBOT.BUY
Action when virus found: Unable to clean infected file. The file was quarantined.
