That`s somewhat of a positive update being that the computer remained functional for so long.

The keyboard does need to be checked but something else that I would is suggest what power settings you have, with the keyboard seemingly not working properly having the notebook not shutdown when the lid is closed would be a good setting to temporarily have..

One thing I noticed after setting it to do nothing. When the laptop is opened or closed the external monitor goes black then comes on right away. It was hard to see but it also looked like the screen was also turning on then back to black.

Turn the external monitor off while the lid is closed, this is a workaround that will hopefully mean that while you have no notebook screen you will have the external one whenever you open the notebook lid, not ideal but better than having nothing at all when the external screen will not work either.

. It was hard to see but it also looked like the screen was also turning on then back to black.

Not sure to what you are referring, do you mean the notebook screen itself.

Hey Phil thanks for sticking with this. Yes I meant the laptop screen will flash. I'll try to get back to a more thorough disassembly tomorrow .Might find something deeper than I got before. External works perfectly. Stay on all night and comes on with it's power button.

I had the same story, is it true that the only way out is to change the laptop?

Hi Phil,

Sorry I've been away for awhile. Made a quick trip back to the old country then got side tracked on a couple of other computers. I'm sure the laptop's problem is a bad solder connection as the screen does work from time to time for varying lengths of time. When I do get to dismantling it where and what should I be looking for?

Thanks
