I still recommend trying a USB WiFi dongle and disabling the onboard WiFi. Won't hurt and may very well resolve your problem.

As I mentiuoned, get it from Amazon and if it doesn't make any difference return it.

You can also go into Device Manager and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power for the WiFi adapter. That sometimes causes sleep/hibernate problems if checked.

Just did this.  We'll see what happens.

Just ordered the USB WiFi dongle.  Even if it doesn't do anything, I'll be able to extend my WiFi distance and it only cost $30.00.

Can you please explain what doing this does?  I'm not sure I understand.

How do I "disable my onboard WiFi"?

Thanks again for your help!

What is the make and full model number of your computer or if custom/home built, your motherboard? We can look up the manual online and wee if it has the capability of disabling the onboard WiFi chip. That way, when you install the USB WiFi dongle you are guaranteed it will be the only WiFi device in use, network and power wise. If not in BIOS then disable it via Device Manager.

It is an Asus computer built by a local computer shop.  I don't know if this helps but here is the "About" on my computer.

Can you tell me exactly what and how this USB Dongle works please?  Is it a replacement for my router or does it work along with my router?  I guess I jsut don't understand exactly what it does.  Thanks.

Under processes, is it normal to have 13 Chrome running?  I only have one page open on Chrome.

No idea where you got the idea this has anything to do with your router. We are talking about a WiFi adapter, replacing the one you currently have with a USB WiFi dongle and hopefully disabling the current one.

I need the make and full model number of the system board (mother board) since this is a custom built.

Run msinfo32 from a Run box (Windows key+R, type msinfo32 and press Enter).

Capture the following from the displayed data and post h3ere:

Do you have a link to the users manual for your mother board?

Many Chrome processes running is normal. I don't (and won't) use Google Chrome. I use Seamonkey Suite, Forefox and Edge (original and now new Edge).

Can the issue I am having with the Network Adapter go so far as to causing the computer to lock up and shut down like this repeatedly or could this be a deeper problem?

I am now getting these error boxes as I am using the computer and then it locks up and then is shuts down and tries to restart.  It will not restart.  I get the "insert CD to reboot" black page.  And as I said, inserting my Windows 10 disk and hitting repair windows, does nothing.  The Recovery Essentials disk says it cannot find a copy of Windows on the drives it detects???

Picture of one of the several error messages I get just before it locks up....

I apologize for what may sound like dumb questions but I am in uncharted territory here and really am unfamiliar with this problem.

I guess one cause of this confusion is that my computer keeps telling me about a NEWORK ADAPTER problem and you are talking about a WiFI ADAPTER.  If these are the same thing (i.e. interchangeable terms) then that solves my confusion.  I did not realize that.  If they are not the same, then I guess I remain confused.

Either way, I know this is a lot of work for you and I truly appreciate you help!

I looked up the motherboard listed and found this link to the users manual.
