Quick report.

I somehow got persuaded to bite the bullet and pay Dell.  (This was during my attempt to buy a disc.)

Was on the phone with a guy for 4+ hours.  Seemed the laptop was incredibly screwed up.  Everything he tried failed.  Finally did a reinstall of 8.1, and now I am downloading the win 10 upgrade g'help me.  Can download my files from iDrive, reinstall various programs.  So starting anew with the laptop.

(He added an icon for the touch pad, and said he'd added some software that would make Fn/F3 work.)

Paws, perhaps I will message you with details and upshot.  Be a week or more.

Ever so thank you.  I have learned some more this round.

Regards,

denno

Hi denno,

I know its been a lot of work( and time) not to mention the cash... but maybe its the best solution.

If you end up with a machine that runs fast and sweet with no issues and a touchpad you can use or disable at will, then it will all have been worthwhile.

Let us know how you get on

All best
