Hi ucantbeserious, I think it would just as easy to have a laptop for everyday use and establish a Desktop top PC almost exclusively for gaming. The computer world has diversified so much in the last few years and prices have come down so much that it is quite feasible to operate 2 PC's within even a moderate budget. Not trying to make your mini perform like a Maserati is only going to benefit the mini -know what I mean ? Then you can take the time and the study time to explore the options you have for a great gaming rig that you can go to at the end of the day with a sense of anticipation and excitement instead of it being just an extension of your work-a -day machine. I had up until quite recently a P3 1.3GHZ-64mb ATI Radeon -512mb sdram- etc etc desktop that I have had so much fun on with mods and other games which I pushed the computer to the max for . As I recall the last games I played on it were POP- the two Thrones and COD2 .Pretty amazing, I reckon. So there you go . Desktops are go !

That's what I expected to hear. It was good while it lasted especially with half life 2 but it's impossible to play black ops or any recent pc game which I understand. Thanks for all the advice Lee. I will consider my budget for having 2 machines so thanks for the input zoe. GIG 'EM.

Hey mate, I would like to add my 2'cent into the equation. PCs are the way to go for Gaming, although some laptops are good enough to play most games out there :D However, the major drawback of a laptop is the issues with heat (cooling) and upgradeability (i.e. you need a new laptop instead of a new component if your system doesn't cut it).

Could be worse. At least I can still play half life 2 for all of eternity with no problems....thanks for all the replies. I was skeptical when a friend suggested joining and posting here at whatthetech but you all have been extremely helpful especially Lee, so gig 'em.

Please excuse my total ignorance (and maybe generational uncoolness) but what in the heck does "gig 'em" mean? Cheers, Lee

I hadn't seen the term in common use, so I asked the "authorities" ---- My college age kids. :P They didn't know either. So I looked it up - Google and found it prominently in urban dictionary and elsewhere, but primarily associated with Texas A&M University. Gig'em - an Aggie hand sign that means Beat the Hell outta the other team. (this doesn't have to make sense because aggies are insane anyway) My only two other references of memory... A Band may have a "gig" to play at a club on the weekend. Adventuresome folks may "gig" live frogs from the lake or swamp using a trident type spear. Very popular with some folks. Scorned by others.
