Happy, Noahdfear has replied already. Please try this: With your system running Linux... remove your thumb drive. Wait 5 to 10 seconds and then reinsert the thumb drive. Give it 30 seconds to give the system time to find it again... and then check and see if it now shows... if it does (hopefully) continue with prior instructions.

I gave that a shot a few times... even trying different usb ports, but no cigar. Sorry. Perhaps I should remove, and reload the file on my zip drive...? Dunno, just a thought.

Two more questions... Can you access the internet while in linux? Do you have a 2nd thumb drive to try?

Hmmm... I tried to hit the internet, but I don't think I can. I run wireless, so I assume that I needed to "Setup Wireless Network", but nothing appeared in the list for "Choose a network". I can get to the Firefox web browser within Menu, but "Firefox can't find the server at www.yahoo.com", so I'm assuming that the problem is that I do not have a network connection. As to the zip drive, I do not have another. I actually went and purchased the zip drive I'm attempting to use just two days ago because I couldn't find my 2G drive that I thought I had, and Staples was selling 8G drives for $15, so it's brand-spankin' new. I could go buy another if necessary.

If you can, I'd like you to try another thumb drive.... preferably a different brand. It doesn't have to be a 8 gig, but I realize that might be a good size for using in the future. The deal is, your thumb drive is working as it is loading you into linux.... but I don't know how to run the script if the system won't recognize the drive once booted. While you're at it... you might see if maybe you have family or a friend that would let you borrow their Windows CD. It needs to be the appropriate operating system (XP, vista,..) and the correct type (home, pro,...).

Ok, will do. I'll report back tomorrow. Uh-oh... we're looking at wiping the drive, aren't we... oh well, it's not much good to me in it's current condition anyway. I'll tell you this much, I'm really hoping we discover some new, nasty virus when this is all said and done. Doesn't that mean we get to name it? LOL

I'm not thinking a nuke and pave... at least not yet. I was thinking along the lines of a repair install... that just reinstalls the operating system... leaves everything else alone.

But, we've got another thing for you to try with the thumbdrive you have. Please download this package: http://mesrss.free.f.../opt/driver.opt

Please store it on your thumbdrive in the opt folder. These are additional drivers, and we're hoping that with them, you will be able to access the internet.

This leads to one more question.... is it possible for you to connect to the internet with a wire? Do you have a router that you can connect to with an cable?

Ok, good deal. But if it does come to nuke and pave, I can deal with it but certaily I'm diggin' the repair option first!!! I'll get that downloaded and installed to the drive asap. Yes, I do have a router that I can connect to via cable. Dang, I'm sorry that I didn't think of that myself earlier. My laptop has a CD drive (natch'), but not a floppy drive.

Awesome...

If you can wire your computer to the internet... download this file: http://noahdfear.net/downloads/rst.sh and save it to sda2 (your C: drive) then run it per earlier instructions.

Sorry to intrude, but if you do get connected, download the file as follows.
Navigate to the mnt>sda2 folder then open a terminal window and type the following command.

wget http://noahdfear.net/downloads/rst.sh

The rst.sh file will download to sda2 quickly - execute the script by next typing

bash rst.sh

When it completes, open FireFox and come back here, login then attach the mnt>sda2>enum.log to a reply.

noahdfear, no intrusion whatsoever. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I will execute the instructions as given... as soon as my wife finishes the work-related stuff she's working on tonight. When I try to plug into our wireless, she loses her wireless connection. So, I'm temporarily on hold. Thanks for any and all assistance!!!

Noahdfear, this is embarassing to have to ask, but how do I open a terminal window in sda2? Plus, I'm trying to use the hard-wire to open a firefox page, but I cannot seem to despite there being what appears to be a good connection (given the lights around the plug-in). Yeah, nope, cannot hit the web... even hard-wired. Suckin'.

Happy, I'm out of town at the moment and don't have my linux usb drive with me so I am unable to "play" with it to give you adequate directions. I suspect that Dave (noahdfear) will be on later and able to provide better advice.
