Rats! Would have been good to know if that worked or not. The article at the link I provided indicated it does work. Vista has one additional registry file, other than that I don't see why it wouldn't work. If I ever get a Vista machine to play with again I'll have to give it a try and see what happens.

Ah yes, Ztruker did mention Puppy Linux first, in which case, thank you for bringing it to our attention! :D I'm sorry I didn't go down your other route to test if it would work, but I felt it would be easier for myself to just wipe the whole thing clean. Thank you both once again :)

I'm just glad you were able to save your data and reload the computer and get everything working again. Good job by the way. Happy day after Thanksgiving

Edit: Seems to be okay at the moment. Put the PC on earlier and it went through fine after clicking to start Windows normally. No problems since, but my god, it's frustrating. Will keep you up to date if anything changes, and make a new topic if need be.

Oh my days, I don't believe it.

The computer has ballsed up again!

Basically, this is what happens when you turn the computer on now:

Black screen saying Windows failed to load. A recent hardware or software install may be the cause.
Options to:

-Repair Windows (recommended)
or
-Start Windows Normally

Doing a repair does literally nothing. The screen quiclly flashes but brings up the very screen I was on again with the same text and options. It's like it tries to proceed, but comes back. So no way to continue through that option.

Doing a start windows normally just brings you to the Microsoft Windows loading screen, with the green bar that goes across the bottom. Except it just stays there, sliding across the bottom endlessly.

There seems to be no way around it. I'm thinking I may have to do the Puppy Linux thing and back up everyone's stuff again, and then maybe do another reformat. But why the heck has this happened? It seemed perfectly fine after I formatted, and now this seems worse than the error before. No blue screen comes up, but it's just not even loading windows properly anyway.

Any ideas? My dad's thinking of just buying a new PC to solve the situation because if it's just going to keep doing this, there's no point in keeping it.

Many thanks for any help guys.
