1. launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the Quoted REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=""

2. Save this text as fixme.reg. Make sure the "Save as type:" is "All Files (*.*)" and save it to your desktop. Include the word REGEDIT4

3. Double-click on fixme.reg. When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
InternetSecurity2010

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {37D2CDBF-2AF4-44AA-8113-BD0D2DA3C2B8} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kibimoboh] Rundll32.exe "c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll",a
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internet Security 2010] C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010\IS2010.exe

O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: kupuhivus - {b687f362-4172-45d3-8ba9-1108bf9c77a3} - c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Files if listed:
c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll
C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010\IS2010.exe

Delete these Folders if listed:
C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010

" Delete these Files if listed:
c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll
C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010\IS2010.exe

Delete these Folders if listed:
C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010 "

I used my search feature on:
"paviviwa"
"internetsecurity"
"is2010"
and
"is 2010"

I could only find the folder. I deleted it and emptied Recycle.

Also found, but did not delete:
in WINDOWS\Prefetch
IS2010.EXE-2B8E9F8E.pf
and
in C:\WINDOWS\temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\3DEW84AA
(with fake security badge icon) SetupIS2010[1]

One of my previous symptoms, one immovable "popup" did not show up this time.
Also haven't seen certain other popups.

but my MS wallpaper did not show up.
Background is white. Often is white since this started.
And I don't think I had this symptom since the very beginning, but soon after:
There is text underneath the icons of my desktop.
What I can read....
".....windows has experienced an unexpected error. As a precaution, your Active Desktop has been turned off. To restore Active Desktop, use the following troubleshooting tips:
- Did your browser stop working, or did you restart your computer without shutting it down first? If so click.......(I can't read under files)
- Did you recently change your background to a web page? If so, ..."
and other options

Also, mediacenter: dvd still has no sound when playing.
And, still can't pull up Adobe Photoshop.

Thanks-

Two other things, while I'm waiting. (1) I think the wording underneath the files of my desktop says the following title: Active Desktop Recovery. (2) I've been allowing Firefox to access my 'trusted zone" and allowing it to access the internet. Sometimes when zone alarm would prompt me about explorer, I would allow it. Then toward the end of my infestation here I would deny it every time. I went to reboot and saw some typical wording, but I think there was something suspicious on the page. My copy and paste did not capture it. But I think it may have referenced Internet Security 2010. "The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..." Try this again as they are still there.

1. launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the Quoted REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=""

2. Save this text as fixme.reg. Make sure the "Save as type:" is "All Files (*.*)" and save it to your desktop. Include the word REGEDIT4

3. Double-click on fixme.reg. When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log

As an aside, toward the end of this infestation, I am getting requests for access other than from my Mozilla Firefox.
I deny them all, since I don't really remember getting them much before.
I hope that's OK.

ZoneAlarm Security Alert
Windows NT Logon Application is trying to access the Internet
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services wants to accept connections from the Internet.
Internet Explorer is trying to access the trusted zone.

OK

(1) Errors? I'm not sure what you mean. When I double click fixme.reg I’m asked Are you sure you want to add the information in c:\documents…. To the registry? Yes. Information in c:/documents and settings\desktop\fixme.reg has been successfully entered into the registry. (2) "What do you have in your trusted zones? click Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites > click on Sites" In the Security tab, I don't have Trusted Sites

Remember when you said: Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these: R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {37D2CDBF-2AF4-44AA-8113-BD0D2DA3C2B8} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kibimoboh] Rundll32.exe "c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll",a O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internet Security 2010] C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010\IS2010.exe O21 - SSODL: tujedodip - {b687f362-4172-45d3-8ba9-1108bf9c77a3} - c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: kupuhivus - {b687f362-4172-45d3-8ba9-1108bf9c77a3} - c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked" What did I see? Only the 1st and 3rd were still gone? The 2nd, 4th, and 5th were back? Should I try again? Also, remember "Delete these Files if listed: c:\windows\system32\paviviwa.dll C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010\IS2010.exe Delete these Folders if listed: C:\Program Files\InternetSecurity2010" I used my search feature on: "paviviwa" "internetsecurity" "is2010" and "is 2010" I could only find the folder. I deleted it and emptied Recycle. I could not find the 2 files. And, also found, but did not delete: in WINDOWS\Prefetch IS2010.EXE-2B8E9F8E.pf and in C:\WINDOWS\temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\3DEW84AA (with fake security badge icon) SetupIS2010[1]
