I used a CD-R, and I used windows rewriter, but when I put the cd in nothing happened. I think I always used to have to click on the cd-rom icon to get them to load. All I hear when I put the cd in is an initial booting sound and then a low humming.

Hello...

There is probably an issue in how you burned the rc.iso file to disc. An .ISO file is an actual "image" of a CD. It is kind of like an exact duplicate of an original CD. You don't actually burn the rc.iso file to disc. You use the rc.iso file to create an exact replica of another disc. Windows has no built-in ability to burn .ISO files to disc. (At least with Windows XP, maybe Vista changed that).

Therefore, I would recommend that you download and install ImgBurn as suggested. Drag the RC.ISO file to the ImgBurn icon and it will automatically recognize that this is a CD image file. Then, when ImgBurn opens, put in a blank CD and click the rather large "paper to CD" icon (in the lower left corner) to start the burning process. This will create your bootable CD.

Now, on the non-working computer, put the disc in the drive and attempt to boot it. If it does not boot, you may have to press a special key when you first turn the computer on to select a boot device. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but you should see a brief message about pressing F12 to select a boot device, or something like that. Choose your CD-Rom drive and you are on your way.

Hope this helps.

I am sorry appleoddity that I am taking so long to get this done. I now finally have some time to do this. This may seem like a obvious question, but, is the "paper to CD" icon" the icon that when you move the cursor over it it says "write", and it has a cd on paper to cd image.

Yeah.. I believe that is the right one.. I would give you a screenshot but I am at work right now. It sounds like exactly what you described. A piece of paper with a picture of a CD on it and an arrow pointing to the right towards the picture of a CD. This will begin the writing process.

By any chance is that last line: Interpretation: wire protected, supposed to be Interpretation: Write protected?

Are you sure you used a new, blank CD-R disc?

Please try one more time with a new, blank CD-R disc.

Please use a CD-R. I don't use CD-RWs and I think there is a format process that has to take place first. Someway to initialize the disc before you burn to it. A CD-R should fix that problem.

Sorry there was problems with my server, kept saying DNS error. I think there is something wrong with my registry. I have pc tools registry mechanic, and I just downloaded regcure from this site www.errornerds.com/ppc/dns-error.php?gclid=CJCVm53a05sCFZ0U4wod7TsBKw. Regcure shows up way more errors than the other one. I will post in another section for this as well. I managed to find a music cd-r, which wrote the iso to it. However I am still have problems booting the cd as F12 wont get me into the boot menu as it should. F2 and F8 are working for their respective menus.

Ok.. Yes, you can create a new thread for problems on the other computer. But, STOP!! Do not use any of those registry tools. I strongly advise against it. But, that is for another thread. Now, if you can get into the BIOS screen with F2, then you can change the "Boot order" so that your CD-Rom is listed first, and then your hard drive. Although, F12 should work also. Either way, keep plugging away until you get that disc booted. You're doing well. EDIT: Are you saying F12 because I said F12?? I was just using F12 as an example. It may be another key to press.. Like <ESC>. You have to watch for the necessary option, or go into the BIOS and change it permanently like I said above.

No. F12 = Boot menu is in the top right hand corner, with F2 = setup menu.

I am going to do a MBAM scan, HJT scan, and a MGADIAG. I should probably to a combofix as well.

I don't understand? What are you talking about? Are you talking about a different computer or what? I thought the computer doesn't even boot? Some of those tools you are talking about running are made to be used under the guidance of a professional. I can't assist you if you're not going to follow my instructions and I can't touch this if it becomes a malware problem. The original issue you posted about "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" is not a malware problem, it is a hard drive problem. If you are talking about running scans on this computer you are only going to do more damage at this point. If you are talking about another computer you need to create a new thread concerning that computer in the Malware removal forum. I cannot assist you with that here. EDIT: HJT does absolutely nothing without the proper guidance of a malware removal specialist, and MGADIAG has nothing to do with malware whatsoever. Therefore, I strongly advise you do post in the malware removal forum for assistance if you suspect malware.

Sorry, I need to clarify some things. I am using a laptop to talk to you to try and solve my desktop problems. However the laptop ran into problems with the internet server, which suggested it was DNS server problem. I am getting good connection every now and then, and when I googled DNS, it said that it could be a registry key problem. The programs I mentioned before where ones that I got from this website before when I had registry key and malware problems before. As I stated (sorry, forgot to type it in, though I thought I had) it was my intention to post these results in the HJT section. I am sorry for the confusion, I realise I have not been very clear. Thanks for all your help so far. I will also try booting the cd the way you suggested on the desktop.
