Please STOP the Service for Windows Defender and set the Start Type to Manual. __________________________________________ Then, using IE "Run as Administrator" please run a fresh PCPitstop Overdrive and post the Results Link. That will give us an additional measure of any progress we may or may not be making with the present course of action. Also in the same post when you post the fresh PCPitstop OverDrive results, please provide your subjective observations regarding the present performance of the machine.

i constantly keep getting a new tab opening up automatically asking me to download windows live messenger 2011. it got downloaded onto my system last week, any idea how i stop the tab opening up on its own, its getting a nuisance?

Windows Live messenger 2011 is available via Microsoft Updates.

If you are receiving pop-up alerts to download Windows Live Messenger 2011, I would be suspicious of the source.

Is the service for Windows Defender presently "Stopped"?
Can you adjust the Start Type to Manual?

Hi pulsebabe,

Did you disable these start-up items as Doug. asked?

00TCrdMain
Adobe ARM
NDSTray.exe
Toshiba TEMPO
TPwrMain

Your CodeStuf Starters post shows Windows Defender is running (although you might think it isn't) :o

Windows Defender","%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe -hide","Registry - Machine Run","1","Windows Defender User Interface (Windows Defender)","Microsoft Corporation

Check 'Scotty' Start-up section and see if Windows Defender is listed. If so, try the disable button there. You can also check the 'Services' tab in 'Scoty' and also disable it there too.

From your last PCpitstop scan, you have 4 unnecessary 'craplets' that need to be disabled. If they are not in the start-up tab of 'Scotty', click on the 'Services' tab and find them there. Please disable them.

1.jusched.exe
2.igfxpers.exe
3.hkcmd.exe
4.igfxsrvc.exe

1. After re-booting, run CodeStuf Starters again and post here.
2. Do a Defrag. with the program I asked you to download and then run a new Overdrive test and post the link here also.

After these changes have been made, Doug will be in a much better position then to re-evaluate the Overdrive test.

Cheers,
Lee

That's ok then. Windows Defender must be disabled.

If you couldn't find igfxsrvc.exe. Don't worry about it for the moment'

Could you now follow the other steps I mentioned:

1. After re-booting, run CodeStuf Starters again and post here.
2. Do a Defrag. with the program I asked you to download and then run a new Overdrive test and post the link here also.

After these changes have been made, Doug will be in a much better position then to re-evaluate the Overdrive test.

Eventually, what we are looking for is a PCpitstop summary like this with no 'fixes' listed:

Cheers,
Lee

Hi pulsebabe, You've been working awfully hard and completing a lot of instructions given here at WTT Forums. I want to take a minute to offer my admiration and respect for your patience and diligence. Now, I realize that you'd probably rather get your machine running as you want it, than listen to me compliment you, so I'll move on. The only location where you will be able to Right-Click IE to select "Run As Admininstrator", if from your Start - All Programs menu. Review my instructions from several posts back. As to "What is the problem"... You haven't said so recently, but I presume that your machine is still acting sluggish, opening application programs slowly, and being less responsive that you would like it to be. From looking at your PCPitstop OverDrive Results, it appears that you still have an excess of applications and processes running actively. This condition can slow down a machine, even when the machine is relatively strong like yours is. You have two CPUs and 3GB of RAM. That's pretty strong. But your machine has 42% of its CPU power committed AND 37% of your RAM committed actively. _____________________________ I want to ask you about the application called TRUSTEER. Did you install that on recommendation from your Bank? I use a similar program called TrustKeeper, which is required by a business credit card processing function that I use. TrustKeeper causes me nothing but trouble. I wonder if your TRUSTEER is even necessary. I only agree to keep TrustKeeper because of my business. I will be building a second computer to put my business software on a separate machine. Then any problems I have with TrustKeeper will be isolated to that machine. But for you, unless you are running a business with your computer, you may not even actually need TRUSTEER. Please let us know. The other "heavy hitters" include: Windows Live Messenger Windows Vista Sidebar DWM.exe <-- manages the special effects for your desktop Windows Search Indexer And running multiple instances of Internet Explorer at the same time. Would you be willing to "turn off" those features (just temporarily) to see if the "load" on your machine is reduced sufficiently to perform better? __________________ And would you please describe what other problems you may still have on your list or features that are annoying you. Thanks, Doug
