Yahoo. :woot:

Now... a last set of instructions (from me anyway).

Cleanup

  • Double click on OTM to run it.
  • Click on CleanUp!
  • When done, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Also: "How to prevent malware"
by miekiemoes

Now... That should take care of malware on your system... but I believe you are still having issues. Therefore I suggest that you follow this link http://forums.whatth...p?showforum=119, and post in the Windows forum to seek help from the Tech Team. You will need to start a new topic there and describe what issues you're still having. It will be helpful for them if you would provide as much information as you can about your computer also. Operating system (vista), brand and model of computer, whatever you can think of.

If this makes sense to you... respond back to me once more and then I'll close this thread and look for you over in the windows forum.

Good morning...... Ok...so I did the clean up. And then when I went to get the anti-virus from microsoft that you suggested I ran up against another wall. As I have said, and as should be obvious to anyone reading this, I DO NOT understand the language at all. So when I clicked on "download"....it asks me to say what type of thing I have and gives three options, I have no idea which one to select. So as typical I aborted the operation. That is exactly why I have the issues I have - I start things, and then get given options that I don't understand, so I abandon the process. Please help me through the anti-virus installation.

Nevermind. Got a friend on Facebook who helped me to find out that I apparently have Windows Vista 7 32 Bit When I went to install, it said: "This file may harm your computer".care I don't care what this machine says anymore because it is constantly giving conflicting commands, so I went ahead and did it anyway. Now I am gonna review those last links you left me about how I got infected and so on.. Then I will be off to bug someone else here. Thanks so much Tom! :wavey: ..

Sounds to me like you've made the right choices so far. Your operating system is Vista 32 bit. Those links I gave you to read contain "information". They are not necessarily "instructions". I have seen where people have tried to click on every link they find in that information, and then attempt to install every program mentioned there. That would cause serious problems. Like real life, operating a computer requires you to make choices. You can't make informed decisions without information.

Thanks Tom, I did review those threads, and yes, I understand what you mean about clicking onto everythng and downloading everything. I think that is what got me here. Getting so much conflicting information from people (Use this anti-virus, NO, use this one, NO that will kill your computer and so on....) Combined with my ignorance of the technology and fear of getting infected, in the early days....I downloaded everything that offered security......and now I know, that they were knocking the heck out of each other, instead of protecting my machine. While I downloaded the security essentials, that you suggested further back....things did go haywire....with the machine telling me no....no noo.... And then when it was completed. I got a message saying that Windows Defender was disabled and I was no longer protected. But when I went into the Control Panel, to check my Security Status - it showed that everything is On and working fine. For the first time - all the lights are green. I rebooted, and looked again in the Security settings, at it says all is well, and I did not get the little "you have no anti-virus" message. But now, the issue is all the things like games and stuff that I downloaded way back in 2007 that I have never used, and need to dump. And then to get my Realtek back and running again. Wheeewwww...... Geez Tom, I hope that I cause you to take up any bad habits or fall off of any wagons that you were on, while you so valiantly assisted me here.... Really so grateful! :notworthy:

Hmm...well on the front screen....um...the start screen before I open my browser....I see 3 scrabble icons, monopoly.....but they could also be some of the things that I "aborted" during install, because I got scared....LOL.... Of the things on that list of installed programs, I understand what most of them are for, except for the following: Picasa 2 Spiralfrog Acer Arcade Bonjour I have no idea what those things are? So if I don't know what they are, I figure I may not need them......am I missing something here?

To get rid of those icons on your desktop (front page), right click on them and select delete.

Picasa is a Picture organizer/viewer program. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picasa

Spiralfrog was a legal, free music download site... but they went bankrupt http://en.wikipedia....wiki/SpiralFrog

Acer Arcade is a program that came with your computer. It is a multimedia suite for playing movies, music, picture viewing

Bonjour is a program that comes with most apple devices and some apple programs. Have you used an I-phone with your computer? This program "discovers" connection routes and ports, printers, network protocols, etc. which allow the apple device to communicate with your computer.

If you want to uninstall any of those 4 programs (Spiralfrog would seem like an obvious choice) you would click on start, then control panel, then programs, then programs and features. Scroll to the program you want to uninstall, click on it and then click on uninstall.

:yeah: That cleans things up considerably! WOOT! *wipes brow* I dumped the sprialfrog, and decided to keep the others seeing as they don't seem to be causing any troubles then. Yes, I have an Iphone, but can no longer afford to have it connected. Which is why I depend so much on using gmail callphone and skype. Mind you, there are still a ton of features that I use on the cute little thing - the camera, the Ipod, etc. Now, I need to get my Realtek back - I see that it really did get knocked out somehow...because it is nowhere to be found - that was what I was using before all this happened.....I did try to reinstall it at one point, but the machine would not accept it..... Perhaps it would accept it now?

Perhaps. Now would be a good time to start a new thread in the windows forum. They may want some additional information and then they will be able to guide you on installing the correct drivers. Remember that if some direction doesn't make sense... ask for clarification. I'll be "spying" on you over there but they are more knowledgeable about these things and can give you more accurate advise.
