A zoom tool is a magnifyer.

Groovemonitor
No, it isn’t necessary. MS Office can run perfectly without Groove Monitor. You need it only if you need syncing and file sharing capabilities.

Screenclipper: http://www.screenclipper.com/
If you didn't know what it was, you have never used the program.
It would have been per-installed on your PC. If you are not going to use it I would un- install it, not disable it..
If you want to keep it please do so, but it does not need to be in the start-up folder. You can still use it anytime you like.

Disabling any of the list I gave you, will not remove any programs or stop you using any programs, it will only remove them from the start-up directory and that is what we need to do. Only the ones I've listed though.

Cheers,
Lee

Pulsebabe, I have no idea how to use Screenclipper so I can't advise. If you like it, keep it and I'm sure it has a 'help' section on how to use it. However, It should be disabled in the Start-up Scotty section directory, along with everything else I listed. Yes, another Overdrive test and link would be helpful thanks. Cheers, Lee

Have you got your UAC (user account control) on or off? It needs to be off and it can be turned on again later. Cheers, Lee

1. Open Control Panel 2. type in UAC into the search box 3 click on the link 'Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off' 4. Turn it off Cheers, Lee

I guess your not getting the option as you are already running as Administrator (I have the same situation in IE8 with W7).

Your still gettin a very poor CPU and memory score.

I'm thinking that your PC has only one CPU core operating, instead of the 2 it has, so I'll have to look into that issue.

I'm off to lunch now, so in the meantime, have a try at this auto Vista fix from the Vista support site.. It's worth a shot I guess.

oh dear the vista support found 140 system related errors and 24 user related errors but its only offering to fix 15 for free. amazing how all these repair products find different things...hmmm! the icon on the taskbar notification area that shows how much power use is left has disappeared, im assuming it was one of the things we removed from start up, how do i get it back cos i have no idea now when i need to recharge. under taskbar and start menu properties the power is faded out and wont let me tick the box at all to enable it. UPDATE i restarted and its come back, why did it disappear though? (i also noticed when looking at that tab that there are still quite a few avg and other uninstalled program icons showing on the list to hide when not in use, how do i get these removed from the system?) thanks

No it's nothing we disabled from start-up. Please re-check to make sure you didn't disable anything else besides what is on this list (?)
Here are the start-up items I asked you to disable (not remove), with all items explained rather than just some of them:

screen clipper window +s (a snip tool. If you don't use it disable it)

wmpnscfg (is used to alert users when a new media device is found or available on the network).

ehtray.exe (ehtray.exe is a process is the tray bar for the Microsoft Media Center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a non-essential process)

msnmsgr (leave enabled if you use msn messenger a lot)

toscdspd (toscdspd.exe is a process associated with the Toshiba Laptop CD/DVD drivers. This is a non-essential process)

sidebar (useless, unless you particularly like and use this feature)

adobe arm (otherwise known as Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager, is an autoupdate utility that notifies you, downloads, and installs new updates for these products. If you install these updates manually then you do not need this program to start up automatically)

adobe reader speed launcher (Speeds up the time it takes to load the Adobe Reader application, but ia not required for Adobe Reader to function properly)

tkbellexe (belongs to realplayer but does not need to be in the start-up list)

brmfcwnd (Brother scanner status monitor - can be started manually)

groovemonitor (unless you use the 'groove' utility in windows office, disable this)

camera assistant software (not needed in start-up)

smoothview (a zoom tool. Disable it if you don't use it in documents etc.)

igfxtray (Quick access to the graphics control panel via a System Tray icon. It is not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to from the Control Panel).

There are several sites that can explain what any process is. Briefly or in depth.
Here is one of them I used: http://www.technixup...nning-in-vista/

Cheers,
Lee

PS Edit:
I'm still looking into the CPU issue, but I haven't had much free time over this Weekend.
