If you still have an issue with the same message, then download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Once installed, find the program on your start menu and run it. Find and remove any Java Runtime listings you find. Then run the JavaMSIFix one more time. This will probably resolve the issue.

Installing Java:
You can find out why you need to update Java HERE
Once downloaded just run (to download fully), and install.
----------------------------
Java install sometimes errors!
Errors include:
1. "Internal Error 2753. regutils.dll"
2a. "This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?"
Upon clicking 'Yes' you receive:
2b. "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed."
3. More errors stated HERE
Very annoying! But there is a Fix
Firstly in "Task Manager" > Processes Tab. Kill any/all running Java processes eg. java, jqs, javaws etc
Then just download this Java Fix tool > JavaMSIFix.exe and run it. ("Download File" near middle of that page)
More (technical) info HERE
----------------------------
Then re-run the newest Java update
Or download the entire Java (offline) update and run that:
----------------------------
Once Java is finally installed properly!
I'd suggest downloading/running JavaRa to remove any older versions of Java
----------------------------
In the very unlikely event the above doesn't work!
I'd suggest running a quick updated scan with free Malwarebytes first
Making sure to remove all found Malwares then restart and try again.
----------------------------

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
- Run JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
- Accept any prompts.
- Open JavaRa.exe (double-click for XP/right-click and Run as Administrator for Vista) again and select Search For Updates.
- Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

Doug, I have read that many people have problems after installing to SP3. It is a major install and I have to get up the guts to do it. I have just run JavaMSIFix and get the phrase Unknown Error 2. Where do I go from here?

Major new releases and updates of software "are" often problematic for early adopters.
However, developers soon learn (from user feedback and complaints) about specific hardware and software exceptions that they may not have accounted for in their initial release, and (sort of promptly) provide revisions to make life easier for later adopters.
SP3 has been out for a very long time now, and most of the many millions of Windows XP users have successfully updated to SP3 and the hundred or so patches that are critical even beyond SP3.
SP3 is a large download, and running Windows Updates is about as fun as watching paint dry on the wall, but it is Highly Recommended.
