Hi Topband,

Let's see what it says when you use a different setting.

  • Go to Start > Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
  • Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection for cable and DSL and choose Properties.
  • Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
  • Click Properties
  • In the lower box, click the box beside Obtain DNS server addresses automatically
  • Click OK

Now follow the previous instructions for running NSLOOKUP the same way you did before and please post both results again.

Thanks

Hi Topband,

In the past did you attempt to install Service Pack 3?

I'd like to check something. You have Hijackthis on your computer

Please make an uninstall list
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click the Config button
  • Click the Misc Tools button
  • Click the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click the Save list button and save it to your desktop.
When you press Save, a notepad will open with the contents. Copy/paste the contents of the notepad file in your next reply.

Please tranfer this to your working computer and post it.

Hi TopBand,

Thanks for the log.

It looks like you may have made a typo when you ran NSLOOKUP the last time and accidently typed yahoo, com

Please run it again on the computer that won't connect and post the results.

Step 1
  • Now go to Start > Run > type: cmd
  • Press OK or Hit Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type or copy/paste: cmd
  • Hit Enter.
  • In the command window, type, NSLOOKUP
  • hit enter
  • Please post the results

Step 2
  • type yahoo.com
  • hit enter
  • Please post the results

Please post back with the both results.

Thanks

Hi Topband,

It looks like Service Pack 3 may not have installed correctly and may be the cause of your problems. Your logs show only SP2 being installed.

On the computer that will not connect.

Click Start, open Control Panel
  • Double click Add/Remove programs
  • Click to select the Show Updates check box
  • Click Windows XP Service Pack 3, and then click Remove.
  • Click Finish when prompted to, to restart the computer after the removal process is complete.
After the reboot can you connect?

Thanks
