I have down loaded hijackthis and attempted to remove this 02-BHO thing from my computer according to instructions from another source but the bloody thing keeps coming back. I have AVG Professional Anti-virus and Adware SE Personal, plus Spybot, ewido Anti-mal ware but none of these seems to fix this problem.

Anyway if you could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the file from Hijackthis:

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

Posted Image

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Hello LDTate, I have carried out your instructions and will post the rapport text first. I did have some worry as after doing the ewido scan and closing down my computer it would not re-boot, even after several attempts. I thought my computer had crashed and I'd lost all my work. It's now 3.47 am here and not being able to sleep I finally got up and tried my computer again and it re-booted thank heaven. Anyway here is the first report. Cheers, Foucard. Hello LDTate,

I made the fix as you suggested and my heart was in my throat when I deleted the files as per the C:\Windows|Prefetch|Delete All files in this folder, as it pop up as a different kind of delete box.

Anyway, I downloaded AFT Cleaner and ran that ok.

The re-boot went ok except that the Windows Installer opened but nothing seemed to be installed - is that normal?

One other question - I have an external hard drive that I had forgotten all about - it was not switched on during any of the forgoing fixes, scannes etc. It just completely was out of my thinking - will this ruin all we have done?

Anyway, here is the new HJT log file.

Cheers,

Foucard

One other question - I have an external hard drive that I had forgotten all about - it was not switched on during any of the forgoing fixes, scannes etc. It just completely was out of my thinking - will this ruin all we have done?

I seriously doubt the external drive was infected unless you use that to backup your C Drive.

Hello LDTate, I have used the external drive to back-up stuff from the C Drive, mainly documents I have created. However, I've not backed these up for some time - well before this problem arose. The only doubts that I have concern some Jpeg's I downloaded off of the Net in the past few days. Do you think this malware stuff might have somehow been imbedded in them? Not knowing much about the intricacies of Jpeg's and malware is the reason I ask about this as a potential source of the problem. Cheers, Foucard

If they are infected with a virus, your AV Grisoft will find it. If spyware, Ewido should pick it up if you run Ewido and scan that drive also.

Hello LDTate, I really appreciate all you have done to help me with this problem - too bad your in the States, otherwise I'd shout you a few beers (or whatever you drink - if you drink at all?). I spent a year travelling around the US - went to 23 different states. I had the best time of my life during that holiday. I really appreciated the hospitality shown to me by so many people. Although a few people thought Australia was somewhere near Germany - that was good for a laugh. If you're ever in Australia - let me know and we can catch up for those beers. Cheers, Foucard.
