Plz, if you are reading this, I could use any input, plz help!

Here's the problem, i've been experiencing this lag which occurs every 4-6 seconds. The annoying thing about it is when you're typing, or moving the mouse. When you're typing, you sometimes skip a word. I've tried SpyBot..Malware...and Ewido. N i've also tried scanning my system with Symantec AntiVius. And there has been no prevail. So here's my HijackLog, maybe there's something in here that I didn't see, plz help! Thanks!

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!
Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsockdriver] bot.exe

O23 - Service: NTLOAD - Unknown owner - c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32\winlogon.exe

O23 - Service: NTSVCMGR - Unknown owner - c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32\winlogon.exe

Then click "Fix checked", and close HijackThis!

Now,please go to:

Start --> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit <enter> (or click OK)

In the Name column in the next screen look for:

NTLOAD

<Double-click> it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32\winlogon.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Now, in the Name column look for:

NTSVCMGR

<Double-click> it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32\winlogon.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\windows\system32\bot.exe <--- file

c:\windows\system32\dllcache\win32 <--- FOLDER

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)

Thank you sir for your reply and concern.

Thanx, I followed your directions. the problem didn't go away, :( I still get the lag every 5 seconds. But, I did find a large amount of files with the extension .DLL in my System32 folder. 1,547 .DLL files to be exact. Then I also found Win32.DLL but multiples of them, It starts Win32(2).DLL and continues up to Win32(112).dll.

Plz let me know on what I should do next. Thank you so much.

This is my current HiJackThis Log.

All the malware appears to be gone. It looks like you have items from AVGFree, and possibly Norton (Symantec) Antivirus present. Do you have two antivirus programs active at the same time? Win32.dll is not a malicious file (normally), although I'm at a loss to explain why you have so many.

I use Symantec Antivirus, and that antivirus alone. I can't remember, but, I probably have downloaded AVG before and just forgot to remove it. This was when I was scoping around trying different antivirus programs before i settled on Symantec. I don't use AVG for any purpose at all, and I probably won't use it in the future. I never knew what AVG was until today, I always thought it had to do something with my videocard or something. ;) heheh

Here's what I did. I opened up Task Manager...n Ended Process for the two AVG files that were up n running..to test it, and my lag went away. So i removed the Grisoft AVGFree. Then I restarted my computer to see if it REALLY went away. But the lag is back again. :(

If there's any information I can provide you with, feel free to ask, regarding my files. Whatever gives you the better perspective to help make the next move. I'll go throubh my programs checking to see if I have any antivirus programs that I forgot to delete, and go ahead and uninstall/delete those.

Thanks so much for your help!

Well... Not ALL the malware is gone.... Just the worst of it (that's showing).
This entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AQ3HelperStartUp] C:\PROGRA~1\AQUATI~1\AQ3HEL~1.EXE /partner AQ3

Is this:
"Aquatica Water Worlds" Screensaver

According to that link, it's something you DON'T want.

See if that is listed in your "Add/Remove Programs". If so, remove it then reboot and see if your situation improves.

If it's not listed in "Add/Remove Programs", "fix" the above entry with HijackThis!, reboot and delete the folder containing the software (C:\PROGRAM FILES\AQUATI~1 <-- this folder).

Another piece of software to remove:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpySpotter System Defender] C:\Program Files\SpySpotter3\Defender.exe -startup

It's listed here:

Rogue Anti-Spyware Programs

As a "not so good" piece of software.

If you are still "lagging", let's go one more step...

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from Spybot Search and Destroy
(This is the NEW Version 1.4)
Get AdAware SE Personal from Lavasoft
(This is the NEW Build 1.6)

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

Configure Adaware

Configure Spybot

Reboot after running each program.

If you're still "lagging", go another step....

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall
Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.

Panda Activescan
Accept default settings.

Etrust Security Advisor
Choose 'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful.

Bitdefender

Report any infections found but not "cleaned" or removed.

Reboot after each scan.

They may take a while. Do as many as you have time for.

When finished, post a new HijackThis! log, and let me know how things are going.
:)

What a night. I spent probably a good 6hrs or so doing what you told me. I already had ad-ware and Spybot, last month I read past posts n downloaded all the recommended downloads such as ad-aware n spybot before posting and ran those. To be sure, I deleted those programs, and re-installed them again, this time following the tutorial step by step. They found a few spyware and malware that were still hidden. I then began the online scannings. The first two went ok, found trojans, advertisements and such. The third one, Entrust..it found nothing which made me happy. Then the last one, it found a few things..but a lot were quaranteened items from symantec. After each scan, I restarted like you said.

To my disappointment, the lag is still present. Even as I'm typing, i sometimes skip a letter due to the lag. I've been told by peers to just reinstall windows again n start from scratch..that's something i'd rather not due, i'd just rather maintain my computer without having to go that route.

below is the link to the results to my BitDefender Online Scan
http://www.geocities...ng/checkit.html

And below is my current HiJackThis! log
I can't seem to get rid of the O23 AVG items on my HiJackThis by putting a check next to it. And the file can't be found.

we used to use a p2p program (limewire) before to get programs. I suppose i'm paying the price now. If there's ne thing else I can do, plz inform me. Thank you so much again for your help and support!

"Fix" these items with Hijack This!:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe (file missing)

Close Hijack This!

Go to:

Start --> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit <enter> (or click OK)

In the Name column in the next screen look for:

AVG7 Alert Manager Server

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

In the Name column look for:

AVG7 Update Service

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot.

I went thru the previous logs you've posted (other unanswered threads). Only the things I've had you "fix" here have been the obvious malware entries all along.

"Normal" Hijack This! logs won't show everything that can be a problem (sometimes).

Since no malware is showing in your log, let's explore other areas.

Run Hijack This!.

Click on Open Misc Tools section

To the right of Generate Startuplist log, there are two boxes.

Check them both, then click Generate Startuplist log.

"Copy/paste" the startuplist log into this thread.

I'm asking some others to peek in here for us, because nothing is leaping off the page at me... A few qestions... Do you still have Ewido installed? Did it find anything when you ran it? Did you run it while booted in "safe" mode? Did this problem become noticable after a "system change" (i.e. installation or un-installation of software)? Now, something to try.... Pull up the task manager. Look in the "CPU" column. When the system "lags", do the numbers in the CPU column on any of the running tasks jump up to 99? If so, which task? Does a new task suddenly appear, then disappear, when the system "lags"? Does the number in the CPU column hover at, or close to 99, on any of the running tasks (except System Idle Process)?

This is one tough cookie.

I do have Ewido, I ran it a few days ago, I'll run it again in safe-mode tonight when nobody is using the computer. It did find several items when I did run it a few days ago. I can't remember the exact amount, but more than 18 infected items were found. I can't recall though, if i uninstalled or installed a program before this lag occured. It's been a good 2yrs since i've had to reimage the computer, and all that time since a few months ago, the computer has been running smoothly. About 10 seconds after starting up, I could use the computer without having to wait for programs to load. It was fast, reliable, and fast to startup. I thought i did a good job maintaining the computer.

Task Manager:

Currently, my CPU Usage as of this moment is around 1-11% it varies..then it wil jump up to 23-30%.
As of this moment, I'm swirling my mouse around waiting for the lag which comes every 5 seconds or so. When it lags the CPU Usage jumps from 3%-19%...then another time it jumps from...3%-21%....12%-29%....7%-21%...but i've seen it hit 30s before.

Currently my System Idle Process is running in the 90s percentage wise. Most of the time around 95%-99%.
Fire Fox: 0%-1%
System: is present only when there's lag, when it lags..it will appear with 3%-9%
crss.exe: comes and goes with 0%-2%, does not seem to appear only when there's lag. lag or no, it does it
Explorer.exe: comes and goes with 0-3% does not seem to be affiliated with lag
task manager: 0-2%

That's pretty much it.

I'll get back to you with the Ewido Results later on when nobody is on, i'll mak sure to run it in safemode then post the results.

It's hard for me to tell if this is caused by an installation or uninstallation, because we're a family of 4 who use the computer, then once in a while family members come to visit and use our computer. They're in their teens, so they mostly do the Yahoo Chat thing. I'm not there to monitor their every move, but, I'll be making a seperate login for them.

Thanks again, and thanks for putting up with my computer problems. I really appreciate it

We've noticed some "leftovers" from AVG anitvirus.

AVG7 Alert Manager Server: C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe (disabled)
AVG7 Kernel: \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\avg7core.sys (system)
AVG7 Wrap Driver: \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\avg7rsw.sys (system)
AVG7 Rezident Driver: \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\avg7rsxp.sys (system)
AVG7 Update Service: C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe (disabled)
AVG Network Redirector: \??\C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\avgtdi.sys (autostart)

The two in BOLD were ones I had you stop/disable manually.

Let's stop/disable the others (thereby totally removing AVG, at least as much as I can see), then reboot. You stopped some AVG components via the task manager and that seemed to help earlier.

Please go to:

Start --> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit <enter> (or click OK)

In the Name column in the next screen look for:

AVG7 Kernel

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

In the Name column look for:

AVG7 Wrap Driver

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

In the Name column look for:

AVG7 Rezident Driver

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

In the Name column look for:

AVG Network Redirector

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot.

Are things any better now?

I opened up services.msc and the only two AVGs that show up are the ones we disabled. The otheres you mentioned are not there. But i did find the 4 AVG.sys files in the system32\drivers folder. Should I just manually delete those files from the folder?
