[martyfrancis]

My daughter has a problem on her school laptop where an annoying blue tool bar appears at the bottom of the monitor screen. It contains several (6) links to “Make Money, Music, Casino, Investing, Travel, Mortgage”. I have scanned with Adaware, Spy Bot, A squared, and AVG but it still persists in re-appearing. Could someone please offer some advice? Thanks for any help. My HijackThis log is shown below:

Hello martyfrancis, welcome to the TC.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log as well as the Resullts from Spy Sweeper file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

As you can see my first scan found quite a few Items (10) and Traces (23).
The second scan found none.
I also scanned again with Adaware which found only one minor malware.

The good news is that I nolonger have the large blue search bar sitting just above the usual task bar at the bottom of the screen. Nor does there appear to be a continual session of pop-up adverts appearing spasmodically on the screen. It looks like the computer is working perfectly now. However, I had trouble reconnecting to the internet and hence posting this reply because the file "iexplorer.exe" was missing? and so I couldn't run internet explorer. I had to copy it from my own laptop which seems to have worked okay.

If you could just comfirm the my two new logs are okay, it would be greatly appreciated.

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

Messenger plus is full of spyware and adware if you installed it and did not choose the option not to load advertising support.


1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, restart your computer and, hopefully voila one nasty infection is gone.

You can re-install Messenger plus later, just remember to install without
advertising support.

Thankyou for your reply and help.
Unfortunately "Messenger Plus" does not show in the Add/Remove programs section of Control panel.
Therefore I was not able to remove it the simple way.
My new HJT log is shown below.
I fell I still have malware on the laptop but it is running much better, and nolonger showing that large search bar at the bottom. Any further help to remove this malware would be greatly appreciated.

Hello LDtate Whenever I try to go to your suggested link to download the file I get "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". Then when I try to delete "*..lop.com" from the restricted sites it keeps reappearing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Marty.

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"


Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.


Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.


Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED PROFILE USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Only file there was: c:\windows\temp\Hvp645.exe which I couldn't delete. Tried in safe mode but found temp folder empty?

Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it:
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\HVD645.EXE

Click on the Back button to exit Process Manager

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
