Hi, my comp was infected with some adware/spyware carp** a while ago. I managed to remove most using Adaware, Spoybot, and Norton AV. But theres still a few programs running on my comp that disables all my services.

Can anyone PLEASE help me out? I haven't been able to use my comp properly for a long while....

Hello Benjamin and Welcome to TomCoyote,

Please run hijackthis again and see if your complete log was posted here. Usually there are entries after the 020 and your posted log ends with the following 020:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Internet Settings - C:\WINDOWS\system32\p08qlal51dq.dll

I need to view the complete log.

I think I dont have anymore entries after 020 because all my Services are disabled by an adware software.
Eventhough, I copied a new hijackthis log from my comp.

Should I re-enable all my services again ?

Thank you so much :)

Hello Benjamin,

Did you stop and disable the services or is the malware doing that? If you stopped and disabled the services, I need you to enable them so that I can see the entries on your next hijackthis log please.

Please do the following:

Ewido Trojan Scanner
Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. Select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Please post the report from the ewido scan
And a new hijackthis log.

Hi Susan, Thanks for your reply... I'm still trying to get my computer back online so I can get the update for the scanner. Either my ISP stopped my service or some of the services in services.msc are disabled. I'll get back to you as soon as I can get it sorted.

Hello Benjamin,

Please do the following:

STEP 1.
======
Open HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [susse] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpsw.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysupd] C:\windows\winsysupd5.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysban] C:\windows\winsysban5.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gimmygames] C:\windows\gimmygames.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiS Mpc Service] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpcsvc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU1] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCClient.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU2] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCMain.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe"
O16 - DPF: {D7BF3304-138B-4DD5-86EE-491BB6A2286C} - http://www.azebar.co...l/azesearch.cab
O18 - Filter: text/html - {2F6E85DC-8D2D-4896-8A4F-7DF8A7B1749D} - C:\PROGRA~1\Jalmp\jalmp.dll

After you check these items, close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis, then click on the Fix Checked button on HijackThis.

Show Hidden Files
Please show all files for your system.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Delete Files and Folders
Please delete the following files/folders:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpsw.exe<<file
C:\windows\winsysupd5.exe<<file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe<<file
C:\windows\winsysban5.exe<<file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpcsvc.exe<<file
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\<<folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe<<file
C:\Program Files\Jalmp\<<folder

If you have any problem deleting these items, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

STEP 2.
======
AboutBuster
  • Download AboutBuster.
    http://www.malwareby...AboutBuster.zip
  • Unzip AboutBuster in an own folder such as C:\AboutBuster.
  • Start AboutBuster.exe. Click OK, Update, Check For Update and download the updates if present.
  • Start Aboutbuster and let it scan. When the scan is done and you choose exit, it will automatically create a log in the same folder where aboutbuster is in.
  • Please post the results.
STEP 3.
======
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.gee.../aproposfix.exe

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

I have repeated the process a few times. But everytime I return to normal mode after AproposFix step, everything returns back to square one. All my services are disabled, all the entries previously deleted by hijackthis have returned, ewido still detects adware files from Adware.Look2ME (phh.dll). The AproposFix folder with my log file on my Desktop has disappeared as well...after I return to normal mode. All these entires have returned on hijackthis: 0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [susse] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpsw.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysupd] C:\windows\winsysupd5.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysban] C:\windows\winsysban5.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gimmygames] C:\windows\gimmygames.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiS Mpc Service] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpcsvc.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU1] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCClient.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU2] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCMain.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web What am I doing wrong?

Hi Benjamin,

Got to take care of that Look2me!

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task .
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button , your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button .
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK .
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK .
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339'. please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32. Directory
http://www.ascentive...ib/MSWINSCK.OCX

I used Ewido to scan my computer, and it comes up with nothing. Then I restarted my computer and used HijackThis to scan again. The scan results were the same as before, containg these files: 0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [susse] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpsw.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysupd] C:\windows\winsysupd5.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysban] C:\windows\winsysban5.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gimmygames] C:\windows\gimmygames.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiS Mpc Service] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpcsvc.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU1] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCClient.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU2] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCMain.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web I checked them and clicked Fix. But when I reopened HijackThis to scan again, they were still there. I repeated and restarted my computer, and those entires were still there. When I open IE, the homepage is a blank page with the address: http:////. So I tried to change it in internet options, but it would still go back to http:////, so I check what page that exactly is, and it turns out to be C:/.....shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm/ Does that tell you anything?
