On the log posted below, I see lsass.exe which I am under the impression is only legitimate if it is in the Windows/System32 folder. Can the one below be deleted? Also, there was/is a Vundo trojan. I have FixVundo from Symantec but it gets to a certain point and locks up. Also, when I run Ad Aware, it locks up to at Windows\Installer|c6a79f96-4eb1-4aae-8318-ab393c64f88\partymode.exe which is a Windows Media file. Would appreciate some advice of what to do. Thanks. :wavey:

Click Start > Run

In the box, type in services.msc then hit <enter> (or click OK)

In the Name column, look for mousecrm

<Double-click> it.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled, then click Apply then OK.

Then do the same for the following

msnupdate

Local Security Authority System

SMSC

Then scan with hijackthis and delete these lines

O23 - Service: Local Security Authority System Service (Local Security Authority System) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Mouse Cursor Monitor (mousecrm) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecrm.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: microsoft update (msnupdate) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\windupdate.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: System Manager Service (SMSC) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\smsc.exe (file missing)

Reboot and post a new log please.

After disabling the files in Services, the items were no longer in the Hijack This log to be deleted. This is the log after a re-boot. Could you tell me if any of these were Microsoft files or were they all "rogue"? Also, do you have any ideas what would still be shutting down Auto Protect in Norton on every re-boot? Thanks.

They were all rogue services added by the worms that Stinger took care of.

Lets do another scan and see what it finds.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Ok. a deeper look then.

  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Paste the contents of the Panda scan report along with a new HijackThis Log in your next reply.
