Can someone please help - my computer is suddenly typing by itself. For example, it types int eh google search bar all by itself and they are not random nonsensical characters - it uses actual words/phrases. I don't even move the mouse or touch the keyboard. I noticed it doing the same thing in an e mail message I was typing this morning, and it's just done it now in the topic title for this forum. The last few days I've noticed it's slowed down a lot, but then it seems to get back up to speed all by itself. I did have problems with one of my yahoo e mail accounts recently which would neither send nor receive mails, then took to receiving but not sending, and now suddenly it's all ok. Is this anythign to worry about? I do run a full Nortons systemworks scan every day and no viruses or anything are showing up. Would be really grateful for any advice. thanks !

Lets take a look.

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

http://www.majorgeek...7fd6b3ff02edc90

REBOOT

Step #2

Please download and run Spybot 1.4 & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Spybot & Adaware Tutorial

REBOOT

Step # 3

Then do a virus scan here >>> Trend Micro

Step # 4

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Siggyx, thank you so much for your reply.

I followed the steps you set out, as best I could, but I wasn't able to do the virus scan at Trend Micro - I tried first in my BT yahoo browser but I kept getting a microsoft error message saying there was a problem and that the browser would be shut down - that happened 2 or 3 times, just as I thought the scan was about to complete; then I tried it in my IE/Google browser but I got this message :

"HouseCall unfortunately does not support multibyte character sets yet. Please come back for updates".

Anyway, here's the Hijack This log :

Somewhere along the line I accidentally downloaded a free spyware checker which I didn't want. I clicked "delete" afterwards, but not sure if that's now gone.

I did notice lots of stuff being cleaned up - didn't know there was so much hidden away in there, despite daily Nortons A/V scans and BT Yahoo anti spy scans etc.

Look forward to your further reply , when you have time. Thanks again !

All best wishes,

Sabrina.

  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Paste the contents of the Panda scan report along with a new HijackThis Log in your next reply.

hi again I hope you won't mind me asking the following questions - and if it's just not possible to deal with these, no problem. 1. I downloaded paltalk ages ago and as far as I know it's deleted from my system but I see it coming up on the scan results - how do I make sure it's gone as I don't need it ? 2. Is it possible to set the default browser to IE ? As things stand I use IE/Google as a matter of prefernce by clicking on "e" , but when I click on any links via outlook express the Bt yahoo browser automatically starts up. 3. Ages ago I had a tiscali dial up connection and then got rid of that and deleted everything tiscali, but at the bottom of my outlook express main identity I still have this massive tiscali advertisement bar which I can't seem to get rid of. How would I get rid of it? It stills has the old tiscali folders as well even though the account is deleted. 4. Would you recommend a firewall? I've tried usiing them but find them quite a chore. Also they seem to cause all sorts of conflicts with the broadband configuation. 5. Apart from stopping members of the family from visiting certain sites - wrestling sites seem to be a favourite but they seem to let loose all sort of hidden nasties - how can I prevent /protect against intrusions? Hope you don't mind the additional questions, and don't worry if you can't deal with them. Ever grateful for your help. Sabrina.

You can renove it from add/remove programs. If that does not work scan with hijackthis and you can put a check beside its line.

2. Is it possible to set the default browser to IE ? As things stand I use IE/Google as a matter of prefernce by clicking on "e" , but when I click on any links via outlook express the Bt yahoo browser automatically starts up.

Here you go some reading on how to >>>> http://www.hku.hk/cc.../IE-browser.htm

3. How would I get rid of it? It stills has the old tiscali folders as well even though the account is deleted.

Lets run a a scan and see what we can do on this one.

4. Would you recommend a firewall? I've tried usiing them but find them quite a chore. Also they seem to cause all sorts of conflicts with the broadband configuation.

I use a router and a firewall. Router is very inexpensive these days and easy to set. I also have zone alarm and also easy to use but you are right sometimes they can cause issues.

5. Apart from stopping members of the family from visiting certain sites - wrestling sites seem to be a favourite but they seem to let loose all sort of hidden nasties - how can I prevent /protect against intrusions?

I will lay out some tools when you are all cleaned up :)

Please download Asquared from the link below.

http://www.emsisoft....tware/download/

Safe it to your desktop. Next open and check for updates.

Boot to safe mode (tap f8 while bios loads)

Then scan your system (this will take some time) after the scan is compelte allow it to fix what it has found. If there is something that it can not clean please let me know what it was.

Then reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

Scan with hijackthis and put a hedck beside these lines and choose FIX

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.client...arch.yahoo.com/

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Cleaner] "C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\SpywareCleaner.Exe" /boot
