My kids have fouled up the family computer once more. I have the Winfixer pop ups and Ad Aware found Coulomb Dialer and Win32.trojon Conhook? I have posted the log below. THanks in advance for any help!

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.13 by Atri
    By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....


  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

    Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.


  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljgh.dll
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\hgjlm.*

    This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

    Do the above for this file also: jkklj.dll

  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: [color="red"]ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the [b]vundofix.txt
file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

LD, don't know what is going on. cannot get to safe mode. Use F8 during reboot and get the safe mode option. I enter my password for my windows screen name. After this it goes to an all black screen with "safe mode" in all four corners, however it never boots to my desktop. Cannot launch VundoFix. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to be in safe mode? Please advise. Thanks, Jim

It can take a few minutes to boot in Safe Mode after you see the Safe Mode in all 4 corners. Give it like 5 minutes. The VundoFix.exe needs to be done in Safe Mode.

If it still won't go into safe mode let me know.

LD, No luck getting booted in to safe mode. THis time I waited about twenty five minutes. I have to let the infector, I mean, my son on the computer to do his homework. I will try to reboot into safe mode tomorrow. I appreciate your help and maybe we can give it a shot tomorrow. THanks, Jim

Post back tomorrow and we'll try this for Safe Mode: click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key. Click the Boot.ini and select Safe Mode. Click Apply and exit Msconfig Make sure after you're done with safe mode to go back

LD we have a problem. I used msconfig to manually set the safe boot. I restarted and experienced the same result. Got the user name login, entered password and then it would not boot to desktop, I waited 90 minutes. I checked the task manager and the system was continuously idle. Now I try to F8 boot to start windows normally and although it allows me that option it automatically goes to Safe Mode and hangs up. I cannot start the computer. Any suggests that would at least get me up and running. (I am posting from my work machine). Thanks, Jim

Unplug the internet cable and any other devices: external drives, printers, scanners..etc. Now try it.

LD, Tried what you suggested. Removed ethernet cable hook up and printer. Still no luck getting all the way into safe mode. Computer stalls and I waited twenty minutes. I have the recovery disks that I created when I bought the COMPAC PC. I am considering reformatting the hard drive and reloading everything. Do you think this is a good game plan at this point? I will wait to hear from you before I act. Thanks, Jim

When you get to the logon screen have you tried the Administrator (user) and if you didn't create a password for the Administrator account before, leave it blank for the password.

I have tried several times to log in on the administrator account (that is not normally there in regular windows). This has resulted in the same situation with the safe mode hanging up and not getting to a desktop

I would say that depends on how important the data is on the Hard Drive. If you can live without it, might be the best thing to do at this point. At least re-install windows.

LD, I scrapped our efforts and reloaded the OS and applications. I can live w/o the data I lost, wife is angry as she lost an extensive outlook mail address book. Thank You for your help, you people provide an invaluable service pro bono. Happy holidays and God Bless! Jim
