Download, unzip and run 'RootkitRevealer' from Sysinternals:
http://www.sysintern...itRevealer.html
Once the program has started, press Scan and let it run.
When the scan is done, use 'File > Save' to place the logfile in a convenient location (such as the desktop). The default filename will be 'RootkitReveal.txt'.

Click start > control panel > user accounts > change the way users log on or off > uncheck fast user switching > restart you computor.
To prevent as many False Positives 's from happening, and therefore causing lots of head scratching etc, it's wise to do the following -
Physically unplug the cable from the PC to the internet connection, and then you can move on to the next stage Safely.
Close down All Scheduling/Updating + Running Background tasks etc.
Launch + run RR and then do NOT touch the PC at ALL for Whatever reason/s until it has 100% completed its scan, or attempted scan in case of some error etc !
Save your Log File, and then Enable those things you closed down, or Reboot, and ONLY then Reconnect to the Internet.
That way you should have a much simpler and clearer log file in which to peruse and evaluate.

Copy/Paste the contecnts of that logfile into your next reply

During the first RR scan McAfee popped up and and found the Downloader-AGT with minibug transporter.dll and A0031058.dll files. I had McAfee remove them. The second scan, with the internet disconnected and background tasks shut down, came up fairly clean. I am very suspicious, because until this point I have previously scanned my computer with every relevant program I know of (adaware, spydoctor, s&d, cws shredder, trend micro, kaspersky, symantec, pp pestscan, panda activescan, mcafee, and ewido, including rootkit revealer)and ewido was the only program that found anything about a week and a half ago. It supposedly deleted the happy day trojan, minibug and hotbar spyware. Here is the first rr scan... 3S Home page. Download here.
After downloading you will need to extract it zip file.
After starting you will see this check all but User "Defined Folders" the first time you run it.
After which you may want to uncheck Passwords, cookies and recycle bin.
Posted Image

Then run Diskmgr, Disk Cleanup or Cleanmgr to delete Temp Files, Temporary Internet Files, empty the Recycle Bin, and Active X Controls aka Downloaded Program Files. Go To Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk CleanUp. Double Click on DiskCleanup and the wizard will check your hard drive for files to delete in the above areas. When it locates all the files, it will ask you what you want to delete. Put a check mark beside: Temp Files, Temporary Internet Files, empty the Recycle Bin and click ok. Those folders will be safely emptied.

I followed your instructions. Is there anything else you could suggest ? I can't speed up the startup process for the life of me (It must take 5 minutes ) it boots, loads, welcome screen, loads, logon, loads, desktop appears with no icons, loads, then tray and startup icons, loads, then ok. Here is a full startup scan, maybe you have some ideas... Use 3S to fix these instructions here

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ad Buster] C:\Program Files\Ad Buster\adbuster.exe -nosplash
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pure Networks Port Magic] "C:\PROGRA~1\PURENE~1\PORTMA~1\PortAOL.exe" -Run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTSysVol] C:\Program Files\Creative\SB Live! 24-bit\Surround Mixer\CTSysVol.exe /r
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [WIAWizardMenu] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\sti_ci.dll,WiaCreateWizardMenu

Then let me know how it is running.

I followed your advice, then rebooted and noticed a little improvement, but it seems to hang on the welcome screen and desktop(before showing icons)...any ideas? Your time and effort is greatly appreciated..

Are there other user accounts on this PC? If so can you post a log from ever user on the computer. Clearly indicate which log belongs to which user, the type of rights the account has (Admin or limited), and for clarity post each log into a new post.

There are 2 accounts on this computer. One is my mom, she is listed as the owner. I am the other account, and I should be granted admin rights as well, however that may not be the case. If you like I can start working on the other side to take care of this. Here is a log from my side first... Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

It's is not bad but not necessary either.

Copy/Paste the contecnts of that logfile into your next reply
