So, today, I was watching a YouTube video on my HP Pavilion. The screen froze suddenly and kept repeating the first syllable of a word on the video. I held down the Power key for 5 seconds, it shut off and then I restarted it. Seems to work fine now, but I honestly don't know what happened and whether or not I should be worried. Wasn't overheated at all, had just turned it on.

Thanks in advance,

Pastimage

Has this happened before? These things happen with sometimes no full explanation. How old is your computer? If it happens again we need much more information. Space on hard drive, make of system. You did the correct thing in rebooting. Keep us informed.

No, never happened before. I got this PC at Christmas of last year, 2018. Will do my best to keep you informed though I do have school so may not be constant updates. I don't know how to find the make of the system, nor the hard drive space. Thanks though!

It happened again. Watching a YouTube video, but the PC was hot due to me having earlier played a game on it. Don't know what to do, restarted and immediately came here. All seems well but one can never know with my meager level of expertise. I'm going to try to find my hard drive space. Maybe the system make as well. Thanks

I still don't know how to find my hard drive space, but I have gone through my Windows (C:) and cleared up things, also turned on Storage Sense in settings and just cleared up files.

There should be a "Computer" icon on your desktop, right click on it, scroll to Properties and there you will find basic information about your computer.  You can also click Open after right clicking on the same icon and that will tell you how much disk space you have free.

When I suggested in my previous post to keep us informed, that only means you are welcome to post with any issue that you have.

There are several helpful tips in my signature you may like to browse to keep your computer running as you would wish it too.

kind regards,.

What is the make and full model number of the computer. Have you added or replaced any hardware recently (memory, hard drive. PSU, GPU)? What about software, have you installed anything recently, around the time this started happening?

If this is a Desktop, open it up and clean the vents and CPU and GPU coolers. Blow out the inside with a can of compressed ait to get rid of the accumulated dust which adds to overheating.

If it's a laptop, use a can of compressed air to blow out all the vents.

Thanks ZTruker, will do. I believe that the make is an HP Pavilion Windows 10 OS laptop. Probably wrong. Did have some issues with a virus on it that you helped resolve as well. Didn't install anything when this started happening.

You have plenty of free storage space available on the C: drive/partition so that is one to tick off on your check list, overheating would be the next thing to check if me.

CPU and GPU are the culprits in a overheating scenario.  You can use a tool like HWMonitor to look at temps and voltages. I use the stand alone version you get by downloading the zip file, no installation needed, just run HWMonitor64.

Get it here: HWMonitor
