Problem with Windows 7 recognizing usb receivers...

mouse

Best Answer terry1966 , 01 May 2015 - 01:01 AM

seeing how no usb devices work then i think i'd be looking at a power issue with the usb ports or on the 5v rail of the psu. this is hp's usb troubleshooting guide run through it and see if anything solves your problems. :- http://support.hp.co...... Go to the full post

hello, i've encountered a problem with logitech M510 wireless unifying mouse. it is suppose to run off their unifying program, plug in the receiver to a usb port, wait for the mouse to connect to it and go. right. when i plug the receiver into a usb port windows promts it is installing the device, then it says device not installed windows could not locate drivers. i have 12 usb ports on my pc and all are good. there is no download at logitech for this and windows says it can't locate drivers. their unifying program you run it on tells me there is no unifying device on my pc. i have no other pc to try them on so...any ideas? quick fixes? ball peen hammer? shotgun? thanks!

thanks but...i found that the other day when i searched their site and none of it pertains to my deal it seems. i've never had any motionjoy on my pc, i searched regedit for DS3 and DS3.exe and no results. i've checked to show hidden files, this is rediculous. everything i buy logitech takes me to their site before it works. this is like buying a car and having to take it to a mechanic to get it to run.

Did it ever work or is this the first time you've tried in on this computer?

What is the make and full model nu7mber of the computer?
What USB port are you plugging the receiver into?
Is it a USB2 or USB3 port? If USB3, try a USB2.

Far out but maybe? How to fix faulty USB Receiver (Logitech Unifying) - YouTube

This is a "fix" for a receiver not being detected but maybe it will help with your problem as well?

Edit: Can you try it on a different computer?

See if there are any hidden devices in Device Manager5, especially USB.

Create a new Environment variable called devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices and set it's value to 1 as follows:

  • Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Click on the Environmental Variables button
  • Click the New button under the User variables for xxxxx" area.
  • Set the Variable name as: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
  • Set the Variable value to: 1
  • Click OK as needed to close all the windows you opened.

To see the status of everything in Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager:
    • XP: Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager
    • Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8:Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings, Hardware tab, Device Manager
  • Click on View then Show hidden devices.

Expand USB Serial BUS Controllers.

See if any show as not connected (greyed out icon). Uninstall all the not connected entries.

Reboot then try the receiver and mouse again.

well i did everything you said and found maybe 15 that weren't highlighted and i deleted. rebooted and same thing, windows is loading device software and then device didn't install, windows could not locate drivers. i took it back got a refund and swore to my hound dog i'd never by another logitech product. this is rediculous to have to go through because logitech obviously isn't capable of manufacturing products that work. it use to be good but i think they were bought ought by a family of road lizards. nothing i dislike more than something that doesn't do what it is made to do, it becomes instantly worthless like those who made it. i have another mouse that's an insignia brand wireless that does the same thing. do microsoft mice come with the things needed to run right? they use to send a cd out with everything made with the drivers and all on it. when they stopped that to shortcut to something else they should have kissed us all and said y'all are screwed.

Since it's was new, you could have contacted Logitech and maybe got it working that way. Returning it works too :)

oh i spent an hour and a half on the phone with them. all they offered was to uninstall, reinstall, reboot, try different usb ports, try another computer, between each of these i was put on hold about 3 minutes while the tech asked what to do with another rep. and he tells me that unfortunately this mouse is one that windows 7 has had many problems with. then offers to send a new one...dude the one i have is one day old. i don't want two that don't work and if there's a problem with it...stop making it! i had to end up while put on hold again just hanging up. i bought a corded mouse today that was cheap...i know, get what you pay for, but i'm afraid the one i have will quit since it's been on the blink, the corded mouse won't load. windows says the same thing...device was not installed, cannot find drivers.

Bummer. Windows 7 is the most popular OS out and their mouse doesn't work well with it?????

Definitely go with a non-Logitech brand.

I'd say connect a wired mouse and keyboard. Backup your data then do either a repair or clean reinstall.

Once that's done, try to setup the wireless mouse.

Painful I know but that should get you to a working condition with the wired mouse/keyboard to start from.
