Hi there,

my PC crashes randomly since 4 weeks - just turns off like I cut the power cable, no shutdown.

- no warnings, no errors
- BlueScreenView doesn't show anything (0 errors)
- no sound-warning

Some more detailed information:

- PC crashes while playing games (i.e. League of Legends, Thief, Diablo...)

- PC crashes while watching Films (Amazon Prime Instant Video)

- PC crashes while running ESET online scanner

- PC crashes after it woke up from hibernation/sleep AND playing games for about 1 hour

- PC crashes after a crash while booting (Pressing Power Button --> Crash after 0,5sec booting)

What I did after this issue occured:

- cleaned the GPU-Fan
- cleaned the CPU-Fan
- increased the GPU-Fan-Speed from 33% to 50% standard

- formatted my whole system, reinstalled windows with fresh drivers etc

- ran several spy-/malware-tools (MBAM, FRST, ADWCleaner, CCleaner, JunkToolRemover, ESET --> crash)

Here are my speccs:

MSI-7350
IntelCore 2duo, E6750 @ 2.66GHz
4GB RAM
nVidia 560 GTX
Win7 Pro 64bit

I hope you can help me, since I'm really frustrated :(

to be honest sudden shutdowns like you described are usually heat related and you've done the usually clean everything to cure that, only other thing would be to reseat the heat sink.

first thing to do is install a temperature monitoring program and see what the temps are when your using the pc, if they are high and it shutdowns then you'll know that's where the problem is.

you'll have to check the fan is running on the cpu heat sink, and maybe remove the heatsink completely, clean both cpu and heatsink contact areas of all old thermal materiel/paste then apply new paste and reseat the heat sink and see if that lowers the temps and cures the shutdown.

if the temps are fine then the next culprit is usually the power supply is failing, so you'll need to check that or try a replacement if you have one.

did you recently upgrade/add the graphics card (gpu)?

people upgrade their gpu's without realising they might also have to upgrade their power supply (psu) too.

the specs for your gpu say's it needs a psu of at least 450watts, is that what's in your pc? because an under powered psu can also cause sudden shutdowns when over stressed by the gpu.

Thermal and Power Specs:
99 CMaximum GPU Tempurature (in C)
150 WMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)
450 WMinimum System Power Requirement (W)
Two 6-pinSupplementary Power Connectors

http://www.geforce.c.../specifications

the max temp for your cpu is 72C before it shuts down the pc, so you really want it to be running around 60C or less when under load.

You said you cleaned the fans. Did you actually clean the heat sink fins too? I have had them get full of cat hair and dust which restricted the air flow dramatically. Install Everest on your computer. It is a free download. It is a small user friendly program that is a must if you are doing any repairs and maintenance yourself. You can easily track temperatures and other important information. When you open Everest 2.20 click on 'Computer' then 'Sensor'.

Get Everest here: http://www.softpedia...e-Edition.shtml

Redoing the thermal paste like terry1966 recommends is not a difficult job if you are at all technical. Check the size of your power supply first.

Let us know what you find.

good suggestion tinkering but personally i would use AIDA64 Extreme Edition (the new name for everest, which is discontinued) and get it from the official lavalys site and not from your softpedia site/link.

it is a 30 day free trial but if you want to use everest which i believe is always free you can get the latest version of it from the same site.

i always recommend getting all software from official sites instead of any 3rd party download sites like softpedia, filehippo, cnet, etc. when possible, usually safer and don't try to install extra things like browser toolbars, etc.

official site :- http://www.lavalys.com/

download page :- http://www.lavalys.c...port/downloads/

I know what you mean about 3rd party site downloads. Everest Ultimate 5.5 is available for download on lavalys.com; it is a 30 day trial even though it is now discontinued. I can't find the Everest Home (free) Edition 2.20 for download on lavalys.com.  EHE 2.20 is understandably not as up to date as AIDA64; if a guy wants an up to date full buzzers and bells edition, 2.20 is not it. So far I can only find EHE 2.20 on 3rd party sites.

Yeah, I think my PSU is around 400W - this could be the problem.

BUT I upgraded my GPU months before and didn't have any problems with the PSU installed til this moment 4 weeks before.

I wrote in some other forums aswell and all hinted, that it would be the PSU.

Therefore - I bought a new PSU (450W) yesterday and will install it today.

I will give you guys feedback as soon as possible ;)

I already use Everest and spectated the overall temperature of all Units I could find - nothing unusual there, all values are normal.

And ofc - I don't download my software from 3rd party sites ;)

more than likely, even tho it did manage to supply the power needed without problems to start with, over time psu's degrade and can't keep supplying the correct power demands with a clean constant voltage (no fluctuations.) so can cause sudden shutdowns.

you'll soon find out when you install the new psu, out of curiosity was it a good recommended brand or just the cheapest 450 watt psu you could find? psu's are when it is definitely not worth going the cheapest route and always buy one from a maker with a good reputation even if it costs slightly more.

Right on. There are times when nothing but top notch will do.

hey there ;)

Finally installed the new PSU:

be Quiet! Straight Power E9 450W ATX 2.4

It didn't crash when running ESET and since about 2,5h in use.

Another Question: Isn't the idle-temp for my gtx560 around 60°C a bit too high?

a bit but nothing to worry about in my opinion, depends on air flow through the case and the fan settings on the gpu what the idle temps are usually, max temp for the gpu is 99C.

i think the normal temp range is up to 75C when under load, so i'd only start worrying and looking at ways to keep it cool if it went much over that.

of course cooler is always better, so there's no harm in pointing another fan at it or turning the gpu fans up to 100% if you want to try and get the temps lower.

Sometimes program isn't easily available anywhere else. I couldn't find Everest anywhere else.

It sounds like you may have found the problem. Thanks terry1966 :notworthy:

Allright ;)
I set up my GPU-Fan to 50% from 33% (auto) via EVGA Precision.

It was around 65-66°C while playing a game with that new setting ;)

=) ofc = of course ^^

Sorry for that shortcut though

Yep, I think the new PSU fixed my crashes ;)
