I've opened a topic in the Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal section but there was nothing found.
http://forums.whatth...howtopic=126267

My computer has been disconnecting from the internet for the last couple of months (Direct red X on the net icon in the task bar). Upon opening a browser, the internet would disconnect. Restarting the Local Area Connection didn't work.
I took it to a tech store here, but they couldn't address the issue. They did a few things there (reformat, BIOS upgrade and a few more things that I don't know about) that eventually fixed the problem.

A week later, after about 2 minutes of video streaming on YouTube, the internet dcs, and when I restart the Local Area Connection it brings back the internet but the issue re-occurs. The tech store have no idea how to solve the issue.
Now, upon startup, the internet won't connect at all (Direct red X).

A few days ago, after I manually disabled the Local Area connection and enabled it back a few times a blue screen appeared.
The file Rt64win7.sys appeared twice on the error list.

In addition, when running on normal mode now the computer restarts automatically upon watching a video or opening the anti-virus.

My internet is running through a modem which is connected to a router. The connection is wired. My OS is W7 64-bit (Ultimate edition).
Whenever I try to use my WI-Fi on my mobile phone, the internet works. Whenever I go on Safe Mode, it works as well.

Thank you.

EDIT:
After restoring my computer and updating the network drivers, the computer (Normal Mode) hasn't restarted automatically so far.
The issue with the internet still remains. Though, this time, there's no direct red X on the net icon. The pc is trying to find a network and when it doesn't find one a yellow warning sign appears and after a few seconds the red X returns. Then it repeats itself.
Whenever I use the "Solve problems" feature, it says "IP Address cannot be configured".

Hi Sapir7, Jeff has asked me to take a look to see if we can help with the Internet problem. I will take a look at your logs over in the Virus and spyware removal forum to see if they provide any clues, and get back to you.
In the meantime please do the following:

1 Check in device manager the details of your network adapter, is it working Ok? any yellow or red flags?
2 Via control panel look in network sharing and make sure that your wired network adapter card is set to enabled, your wireless network card (if fitted) is set to disabled
3 Power down your computer to a full shutdown (not a sleep hibernate/standby) and remove its mains electric wire from your electrical supply wall socket, and then power down your router and then your modem....
4 Wait for 35 minutes (by the clock not a second earlier)
5 Power up in the following order
6 modem and wait 5 minutes after its fully powered up and all lights showing, and then:
7 Router and wait 5 minutes after its fully powered up and all lights showing and then
8 Replace the mains electrical wire to your computer and power it up, wait 5 minutes ( by the clock etc) and then
:9 open a command prompt with elevated privileges (right click and select Run as Administrator) and paste in the following command:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping bbc.co.uk >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

10 Press the Enter key once
11 After a few seconds an output window will open.
12 Copy and paste the output into your reply
13 Next run the following script:

Copy and paste these lines in Notepad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Double click on the flush.bat file to run it. Your computer will reboot itself and the batfile will auto delete itself..
14 Next try a test of your Internet and report back with your findings.

15 Finally reboot into safe mode with networking and try your Internet and report back if it works

These tests will help us zero in on the problems with your machine so we can advise the next steps.

There were no red/yellow flags near the network adapter in Devices Manager.
Still no internet on normal mode.

While performing step 13, there were many "Access Denied" and "Couldn't reset ..." (The command line disappeared so quickly I couldn't read).

Hi sapir7
The output from the script you ran (Windows IP config) indicates that your computer is not receiving an IP address from your router

Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.192.16(Preferred)

I didn't like to hear about the "access denied" errors you experienced... that is not good.... :(

I would like you to test your hardware before we go to far down the route of trying to fix Windows/software....

Please download a copy of Linux Puppy-4.31.iso from here:
http://distro.ibibli...ux/puppy-4.3.1/
(its only about 104Mb)

Burn the .iso to a CD as an image... it must be burnt as an image (a simple copy wont do), if in any doubt then use ImgBurn, available from here to burn the image.
http://www.imgburn.com/

If you do it correctly you will have a CD that is bootable and which contains a complete independent operating system that does not need Windows to run. Puppy will run entirely in RAM..... and will not write anything to your hard drive (unless you ask it to!)

Try and boot into Puppy with the CD in the tray...most machines will do so, but if no luck then you may need to set your BIOS to boot from CD/DVD drive as priority 1 with hard drive as priority 2 (the rest dont matter!) save the changes and with the CD in the tray exit the BIOS... your computer should now boot into Puppy.

Linux puppy is different from Windows, but its pretty easy to use... just remember only one click in Linux when opening stuff.... (a double click just opens two copies!)
Puppy should allow you to connect to the Internet... let us know how you go.

if you can access the Intenet Ok with Puppy then the finger of suspicion is pointing towards Windows itself
so at least we will know where to focus our attention....

Incidentally . I take it you have everything backed up on your computer (stuff that is important and that you dont want to lose... )if by any chance there is stuff that is not in your back ups or you dont have at least one extra verified reproducible copy of them kept safe on removable media offsite then now is the time to remedy things.....

Post back and let us know when you are happy with your back up situation and tell us if Puppy did the trick and allowed access to the Internet.
Regards

Hi Sapir7, You only need to back up stuff you dont want to lose.... if there's nothing important on your machine then you only need to back up, or copy to removable media things like your Windows Product serial key, serial keys for other applications like for example Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint etc, Your anti virus and other important things) A lot of folks have photos, music, videos, work docs, emails and Internet Explorer favourites ( Bookmarks etc) and other data files, internet usernames and passwords, that they dont want to lose, so back them up.... I always suggest to my customers that they also back up their address books as most seem to have many folks email addresses that they could never rememeber if they had to start again. I see from your posts that the machine has recently been formatted and the operating system reinstalled by your local shop/technician..... are you sure they formatted it before reinstalling everything?.... as if they did without a back up, all your stuff would have been cleared from your computer..... You can back up,( copy off stuff) to removable media (an external USB hard drive is good) either through windows in the normal way or you can use Puppy whichever you prefer. Regards paws

When I took the computer to the tech store, I asked them to back up all of my important things and they did. After re-installing windows, they added my files back. I'll buy an external HD, which hopefully can contain all of my files, which can go up to 200GB I think. Hopefully, I can do what you've asked for today. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the tech store was closed today and the other stores are too expensive so I'll only buy one and backup tomorrow :( Anyway, since I am a noob, I have a few questions before installing Puppy: 1. When you say burn as an image, do you mean burn as ISO (on nero) and Write image to file disc (on ImgBurn)? 2. If the CD is bootable, do I insert it while the computer is running? If yes, what will happen? Will 2 OS's be running at the same time? Does the fact that Puppy is running entirely on RAM allow it to run on top of Windows? (That's just my curiosity). 3. Else, the CD I've burnt won't boot and I'll have to enter the BIOS settings and change the boot priority to CD/DVD other than hard drive. When I do that, should the CD be inside already, or do I insert it after changing the BIOS settings? And when I am done with the installation part (hopefully), the computer is shut and the CD is out, I revert the BIOS settings to what they were and just continue normally? I know these are stupid questions but I am a bit scared because I've never done anything like this before and I don't want to ruin my computer even more, hehe. Thanks :)

Hi sapir7, I'll try and answer your questions one by one: 1 download the puppy .iso from the link I gave you then you can just use Imgburn to burn the disc (CD) as an image (you dont need Nero at all, but of course, you can use it to burn the .iso if you want to, instead of using Imgburn) 2 when you have the CD with the Puppy burnt on it as an image, place it in your CD tray (nothing much will hapen) Close down your computer to a full shutdown not a sleep/hibernate/standby) wait for 30 seconds and then start it up again, your computer will hopefully boot into Puppy and you may see a message saying press any key to boot from CD.... if you do.... then press the space bar once and then follow on screen directions If your machine wont boot into Puppy but just loads Windows in the normal way then you need to go into the BIOS and set the boot priority as previously described. Dont worry too much Puppy will run in RAM so you wont have 2 OS operating at the same time. 3 Yes.. if you have to change the boot priority in the BIOS put the CD in the tray change the settings in the BIOS exit the BIOS saving the changed boot priority and then your computer will boot into Puppy... follow onsceen directions and away you go... Yes when you exit Puppy you can remove the CD from the tray You can remove it when Puppy is running..... he wont mind... The next time you start your computer (even without altering the BIOS settings back to what they were) your computer will still start normally into Windows. Explanation (as there is no CD in the tray (boot device priority one, the computer will move straight to looking at your priority 2 device (which of course is your hard drive) and Windows will boot normally. I think all your questions are very wise... far better to ask rather than be unhappy about causing more trouble on your computer.... Regards paws

just wanted to clarify something because you've used the statement " installing Puppy" in two posts. your not "installing" anything. like paws has said puppy runs in memory so nothing gets written to your hard drive, there will be an option to "install" puppy somewhere, once on the boot menu and once on the desktop when puppy is running, but both are an option you do not want to click on/use ever for this test.
