I used to pair my 2 devices before I did a clean install of Win 8 from Win 7 and lost blue tooth as the compatibility advisor predicted. Is there a way to download and install Bluetooth now that I have Win 8.?

TBH there is only 1 major limitation in this area, and that's driver(s), as long as there is a driver for your OS, you can install this, as to how easy this is depends how flexible the dongle is, there are some that work so easily you wont have a problem, then there are others, that just wont play nice, there is no clear list to look at for these, although you may find many mentions as to what others are finding the best, but that doesn't guarantee you wont have a problem, there are to many variables for a definite answer. I don't know if you already have a dongle for this, and you just want to know if it will work ? Or if your looking to buy one ? But installing Bluetooth is no different than installing any other hardware, if there is a driver for it that device for the OS you want to use it on, then it "should" work, of course there are always those few that just wont behave, let me know if you need any other info on this, and I will do what I can for you.

I may be on the wrong track but I did the following;
search = troubleshooting, settings, trouble shooting and there is a box which says you can use previous versions of Widows. I tried but Bluetooth was not there so I clicked on 'I did not find mine'. I then browsed and found Bluetooth but there were too many selections.
I did find one in windows that had a big Bluetooth icon next to it. I did not know if I should do any thing from there.

There is no dongle as there is a card in the pc.

I appreciate the help because I used to pair the laptop with my phone.!

Peter

>>I took a shot of the compatibility troubleshooter and it is the attachment. Should I do anything with this, for sure.

I need to know exactly what make\model of your dongle is, or if it's built in, also if you can say how you previously installed it, then I can get a better idea, but the way your currently trying will not work, well it may, but the headache would kill you first, unless you got lucky lol, because currently the system is asking you exactly what I am here.

I have had various trouble with W8 on my laptop too. Problem is some system drivers and especially programs, haven't yet released compatible/specific W8 versions yet. Can cause a lot of frustration and messing around.

Dell XPS 8300 - Windows 8 64 bit Network Bluetooth drivers.

I cannot see Bluetooth in add/remove. There is a blue icon when I run the compatibility procedure that says it is .exe but nothing happens when I perform follow through with the compatibility procedure. Where in my pc can I find the information that would tell me which to install from all the choices at the Dell site?? >>You said,"Can cause a lot of frustration and messing around." I agree to the point where my enthusiasm for 8 is wearing off and I am considering a return to 7. I would like to resolve the Bluetooth issue fist if possible.

I cannot see Bluetooth in add/remove.

It wont be in add/remove.

In Device Manager (press WIN+X keys together and select Device Manager) open Network Adapters / right-click on what is there and select "Properties" and then "Driver tab". Details of driver will be there but you don't want the same one if it is causing you trouble. When you clicked on "Properties", did it say this device is working correctly ? If not, you will find "uninstall" under the "Driver Tab". Uninstall the driver then re-boot and W8 will automatically re-install it. Check again to see if is now working correctly. If so your Bluetooth should be OK now, if not, try the driver below to see if it works without issues.

The driver you want to try is this one (at the top) 12.0.0.4300 unless the driver installed is a "Broadcom" driver. If it is, select the Broadcom driver.

No need to uninstall the old one, just download / select "run" and then re-boot.

I agree to the point where my enthusiasm for 8 is wearing off and I am considering a return to 7.

I'm starting to think the same thing.

Firstly I have installed StartIsBack so it looks like W7 and has a start menu. Some of my programs I have on "run in W7 compatibility mode" (don't get me started on gaming problems) which is a bit "hows your father" regarding workability.

OK, so the security is supposed to be better yet I have never once had a problem with W7 security (I use W7 on my desktop) and as for IE10 being better than IE9, who in the heck uses IE anyway? The Apps. that come with W8 are buggy and for photos, W8 is hopeless. I cannot view RAW images unless I convert them first into JPEG. So what is the point of having superb RAW images in the first place?

I have W8 running and looking like W7 but it is a pain in the neck in many areas. Why am I using W8? ...Hello Earth to planet Lee???

Interestingly, Microsoft support for W7 has very recently been extended out to 2020. Why?
Maybe it is because the uptake of W8 has been dismal and especially by the business community. Is W8 just another Vista bomb type OS waiting for W9, like Vista waiting for W7?

Well I'll leave it on my laptop for now as I need it to (hopefully) help me sort-out member's W8 problems here, but there is no way in the foreseeable future that this dumbed-down OS will ever make it onto my desktop computer. Interestingly, I had a load of problems sorting out my W8 Wi-Fi connection (not Bluetooth) that never existed when I had W7 on my laptop.

Cheers,
Lee

I have a built in card.
I read I just right click programs where I am and select compatibility.
I just don't know which icon to right click on.

The most hopeful solution is go to the makers site (I assume it's a store bought system ?), find your system there under support\downloads\drivers, then go down to see what it has under Bluetooth, remember that your looking for a Win 8 driver (select 32bit\64bit as applicable), if it has none listed then it's a case of fingers crossed and hope to stumble on something, beyond this finding the exact maker of the component, and going to them looking for a driver is as much as you can do.

Another option is to simply get a cheap dongle, £ shops often have them, it's not often I'd suggest this, but a cheap one with no driver(s) included is probably the safest choice, as such dongles often use the m$ Bluetooth stack, and as it's m$ who provide the OS (for most anyway lol) one hopes this would work without issue, worst case it's not much money, but it's worked for me many times.

But going back to the makers drivers, often they list many varied options, there are 2 things you can do to minimise the choices, first if you know which model (hardware maker, e.g. Broadcom as mentioned above), just look at those options, next, and often the biggest help, is check out dates and version numbers, some places keep all drivers ever released for any of the hardware makers they have ever released, this can make for a scary list, so always look to the latest\newest versions, with the newest release date, that should help a lot, of course there are rare times where an older driver is proved to be more reliable, and when such cases happen, that's the version to go for, hope you get some luck anyway.

I tried the link and it was what I have looked at for a while, coincidentally.
I think it is right, however, it says to plug in or turn on the Bluetooth.

I went to wireless in the BIOS and under networking there was internal Bluetooth.

The hot switch said All[I tried chaning and returning] + 2 other choices I did not understand. There was an entry called Wlan[which was under hotkey] and a third I cannot recall.
I retried the link but it said to turn BT on again.
If I could turn it on it might help.

Umm... press the wireless button on the top right side of the keyboard... its one of the touch sensitive buttons. The wireless On/Off switch also controls the Bluetooth module.

I never thought of the keyboard key to turn it on. I'll try. I was telling Ztruker I am in the process of using Win 7 as it is much better for me. I will keep an image in my usb drive of 8 Win 7 is stable for me and has all I need . I hear it will be supported for a long time. I think you told me.. The desktop is almost done then I am off to the laptop.

I had originally posted that Win 7 could not read 8 in my usb drive but I tried it again and was able to image Win8 which I now have. So although I don't have a dual boot(licenses) I do have images of both 7and 8 hat I can go to IF I need to. I can get around Bluetooth with a usb cable or I could buy a dongle. Win 7 was a nice visit but it made me appreciate Win 8 and I am glad to be back. All's well so far and thanks for the help.
