Hello again macdoo

Can you tell me when this started and if you receive any error messages.

Meanwhile, let’s check your system a little better.

Run DDS

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

DDS.scr
DDS.pif

• disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
• double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
• when done, DDS.txt will open.
• after a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
• save both reports to your desktop.
Post the contents of the DDS.txt and Attach.txt reports in your next reply
===================================================

Run aswMBR
  • download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.
  • double click the aswMBR.exe to run it
  • if asked, accept the AVAST virus definition download
  • click the "Scan" button to start scan
  • on completion of the scan click Save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
===================================================

Run Farbar Service Scanner

Please download Farbar Service Scanner
  • make sure "Include All Files" option remains checked
  • press Scan
  • it will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run
  • please copy and paste the log to your reply.
Logs to include in the next post:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt
aswMBR log
FSS.txt

Thanks

Just got home from work. The trouble started about a week ago. Attempts to open g-mail result in a long wait then a "The connection has timed out The server at mail.google.com is taking too long to respond. For google we get all different types of responses.depends on browser. Sometimes it's the same as g-mail but other times it seems like it's working but when you click a search result, you see a redirect involving "bufpuma" not sure if i spelled that right. Then you end up at some other site. I will begin your instructions but i'm warning that i'm NOT computer literate and getting this far is huge lol. Will attached requested items when done. Thanks sooooo much.

Hi macdoo It's late here in the UK now so take your time and I'll review what you send as soon as I can. Don't worry about not being "computer-literate", I'll take things at your pace and if you don't understand any of the instructions, let me know and I'll try to explain. Satchfan

macdoo I see no sign of you having informed the other forum that you are being helped here. When you have done that, please follow the instructons I provided previously. If for some reason you have a problem with them, please give details. Thanks Satchfan

I really wanted to have everything you asked for the next time you were here. Tried the aswMBR scan one more time and the comp crashed again. Now it fails to restart. Should have sent you the screen shot rather than waiting to see if you wanted it. Guess I will now be working from the comp I sending this from. It, like all the comps in the house, has same issue. :( I hope I did what was needed to inform the other forum. I told you i was not a computer person. It truly was an accident. I'm glad I was able to get to gmail at my mothers house and see the message from What The Tech before anyone started trying to help me. I put all my faith in you. See you tomorrow

Hello macdoo

I hope I did what was needed to inform the other forum.

Yes, you did it OK.

Let’s try and find out what is happening here.

Can you try starting the infected computer in safe mode?

To Enter Safemode
  • start the computer
  • as the computer starts to boot-up, tap the F8 KEY - this will bring up a menu
  • use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with Networking
  • then press Enter on your keyboard
If it starts OK, please find the DDS.txt log and post it.

If that doesn’t work, do you have a portable flash drive or some other way of transferring files from a good computer to the infected one?

tried the safe mode with networking. It sat frozen it seemed for a while then shut off. I have an empty flash drive ready in this computer. There are the various tools we may be using saved to my desktop on the infected computer but I promise I have only ran what you asked and was doing that in the order you asked when the fail to restart happened.

Let's try this:• restart your computer and hit the F8 key constantly until a menu shows up
• use the arrow keys to navigate to Last Known Good Configuration
• press Enter
Do you have a boot CD?

CHKDSK is verifying files. IF we have/made a boot disk it would take weeks to find and I'm not even sure if it exists. My better half is the tech of the house and not home to consult about disk. Sorry.
