Hello Herro, Welcome to the WTT forums. ^_^ Is the laptop just powering off immediately, or is going through the "Shut Down" process? Do you get any STOP Errors? (i.e. Blue Screen of Death). How long has it been doing this? Cheers, Nahumi

Hey also Herro, Welcome to WTT :D Before I can assist you to the best of my ability, can you please answer a few questions.. I assume that your Laptop works ok until you move it a bit or open the disk tray, meaning that you can operate it but with difficulty? If this is the case, it could indicate a Power Supply-related issue. This would only be the case if your Battery doesn't hold charge (meaning that you can't unplug the charger without it switching off). If not, it could be a form of shortage or something along that lines. Have you spill any liquids on the laptop recently? Also, when exactly did this problem begin? Thanks for your time, -Daniel

Thanks for the welcome it power offs instantly without any warnings like if you took the battery out. i get no blue screen noth just instant power off. i have never split any form of liquid on it in the past. I have had this problem for over a year now. Its probably not realated to power as i am not using a battery right now just had it connected to a power supply and it still turns off is i open the DVD tray or when i lift it up.

Actually, I would suspect the power supply is at fault. Basically, there is a loose connection somewhere which means that power is momentarily lost when moving the laptop about in some manner (i.e. using the disk tray). If it is possible, could you try a replacement battery. I feel that would solve the issue at hand here (although the looseness could become more a problem in the future). Hope this is clear why I think it is at fault, -Daniel

Yes, a loose connection is possible. If anything, it will be around the AV plug. If you "wiggle" the power cable, does the laptop power off? I wouldn't go off buying a new batery just yet though...

Okay, next try taking the battery out and just running off the mains. Try moving the laptop around again to see if it cuts out.

Okay, at least we know it's to do with the power.

Replacing the battery may fix the problem, but if there's a loose connection, as Mr Bean suggested, it might be an idea to get it checked by your local PC shop.

It shouldn't cost that much to get it checked out and they'll be able to order the correct battery for you too. Just keep in mind that if you don't get the laptop checked for loose connections or short circuits, it may present a significant fire hazard.

Let us know how it goes. ^_^

Hey mate, Glad we are making good progress :) I don't think that a fire is likely if you don't get it fixed, but it could cause the power lead and/or the laptop damage if you are unlucky. Nahumi is a good tech so I think that advice given by them is the way to go :D -Daniel P.S. Make sure to let us know how it goes :)

Mr. Bean, You will be well advised to respect the cautionary and safety advice given by Nahumi above. Herro, Realistically very few electronic products, or even toaster ovens for that matter, go up in smoke. The ones that do, often have battery problems, and/or short-circuit problems in the power supply train similar to what you describe. Often the problem that eventually causes the worst consequence is one that is neglected, ignored, or in which corrective service is deferred until too late. Nahumi's cautionary/safety recommendation is well meant, well put, and sensible. Nahumi speaks well for himself and may be back with further recommendation. My comment here is not to over-reach him, but to fully support him. Tech Admin
