Hi, I am having problems with streaming content using windows media player 12. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 which comes with WMP 12. I have all the updates but when I try to watch streaming content, I get a 'connecting to media' message for some time and then 'ready' with no sound or video. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WMP using the 'remove windows features' way. The website that I am interested in watching has the url starting with 'mms'. How can I fix this? If I open WMP as stand alone, it works fine but I cannot get the streaming to work. This happens even though I turn off the AV and FW. I am at a loss. I can access the streaming website at work on my work labtop. So I took my laptop home and connected wirelessly to my router and now I cannot get the streaming to work. What could be causing this? On my desktop at home, I cannot get any streaming even when I have disabled the firewall and AV. So it is not that. Could it be the router? I have the Verizon FIOS router. If it is the router, how can I overcome this? The url for the streaming site starts with mms. Thanks. D

I'm confused. WMP 12 allows you to stream media from your computer to other computers over the internet.

How to stream video on Windows Media Player 12

It sounds like you are talking about watching streamed media on your computer. If this is what you mean, try disabling Windows Firewall, see if that allows it to work. If so then you need to set up a firewall exception. We can look at that once you provide more information.

Thanks for you reply. I am trying to watch streamed content. I disabled windows FW and AV and yet no luck. And when I used my work laptop at home wirelessly, it did not work. However, I could watch the same streamed content with no porblem when I use my work network.

Can you provide a link to something you can watch at work but not at home please? That may help figure out what is wrong.

Foe example, I cannot play any of the wmv videos on this page:

http://www.imdb.com/...0381/videosites

I get the 'connecting to media' message for some time and then 'Ready', but no audio or video.

What program is associated with .wmv files?

Check Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Associate a file type or protocol with a program

Scroll down to .wmv, what is listed? For me it's Windos Media Player.

Here is the FAQ of the site I am having problems with:

What are the minimum requirements for watching live cricket?
Internet explorer, windows media player & high speed internet (cable/dsl)

What is the quality of watch cricket live streaming?
We stream cricket at the very best quality of atleast 550 kbps or above in HD.

My windows media player says 'Ready' and not playing any video?
You need to enable the 'mms' and 'rtsp' protocols on your windows media player settings, also please make sure your media player is updated to latest version from microsoft website.

Why is my streaming video buffering frequently?
Either your connection speed is too low, or your connection speed vary from time to time, or you are running some other applications on the background.

Is it possible to watch cricket streaming on mozilla firefox browser?
Yes indeed it is possible, Click here and install the ActiveX media player plugin's for firefox.

Iam behind a proxy server/firewall, what should be done in order to watch live streaming?
The 'mms' protocol and the port should be enabled, please contact your system administrator for details.

No problem playing the Hilary Duff vid on this XP with WMP 10

the other site:
http://watchcricketl...70455268f2aa3e8

Opens to a required member login.
That "could" be what's stopping you on cricket-live.

I am a member of the site and when I log in at home, I cannot access it but can access it from work. Apparently, this may be an issue with Veriozn FIOS service. here is what I have found online:

Hi, if you have tried all the suggestions in the topics you linked to.... and your laptop connects OK to the service you want, at other locations (work for example but not at home) then its pointing towards: 1 A problem with your router/modem/gateway/wireless access point at home either setup/configuration or hardware or 2 A problem with your ISP Therefore you could try reconfiguring your router /modem/gateway/wireless access point or just substitute with a known good working one. If this doesn't do the trick then its back to your ISP to get them to fix the issue (or you can change ISP to one that works OK with the service you want to access.) Regards paws

Hello All, I've had this problem a couple of times in the past and have been able to fix it by doing the following. In the user profile \AppData\Local\Microsoft folder there is a folder called "Media Player" I deleted this folder and when I tried to stream again the folder was automatically re-created and the problem was fixed. Hope this helps
