Hi, hopefully someone can help resolve this issue!! My computer froze today so I restarted it. When I did I recieved the black screen stating that windows did not start properly and gave me all the options available on that screen. I tried every start option possible and none will work, safe mode with/without networking, command line etc. I also tried to boot from the disk that came with the computer and it gets to the title screen and then the big E for e machines and that's it. Essentially, in every manner that I've tried starting it starts and then returns to the black screen. For whatever reason it will not fully boot not even with the recovery disk. so i disabled the auto restart on system failure and recieved this code. a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. etc.. then it says that ishould disable or un install any anti virus, disk fragmentation. or back up utlities. check hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. runCHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restatr computer. all of that seems undoable being that my computer wont boot! any how heres the full Technical Information that was given ***STOP: 0x00000024 (0x0019203, 0x8B51D1B0, 0x0000102, 0x00000000). please keep in mind i can not boot with or without network in or out of safemode. thank you in advance and i look forward to your help

Hi cld.

I don't know what kind of Disc you received with your E-machine, but give this a try:

Download and create a bootable CD from the .iso file XP Recovery Console

You don't burn the iso file itself to CD., you create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will
do this.

Boot the CD and at the first opportunity, enter R to start the Recovery Console.
Next, choose which XP installation you want to login to. Normally this will be 1.
Lastly you will be asked for the Administrator password. Just press the Enter key as the Administrator does not have a password (unless you gave it one, then you would enter it).
From the command prompt, enter: chkdsk c: /r
Allow it to complete undisturbed. It can take an hour or more depending on the size of the hard drive.

Remove the CD, type exit and the computer will reboot. Hopefully that will have fixed the problem (corrupted file system)
.

If that doesn't work then I would suspect a problem with your RAM. You didn't say what kind of computer you have, dekstop or laptop, but for either it's fairly easy to open it and check the RAM. If there is more than one stick, remove one and try again. If it still fails, swap RAM sticks. If you don't want to open the computer to do this, you can try running a memory diagnostic.

There are two programs that are normally used to test computer memory, Memtest86+ and Microsoft Memory Diagnostic. They are available from the following locations:

Memtest86+
Microsoft Memory Diagnostic

They are bootable CD ISO images. You don't burn the iso file itself to CD., you create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do this easily.

Let me know how you make out.

hi Ztruker, i was unable to do the disc because i didnt have another computer to use until later on, so i thought i'd try the suggestion you made about the ram. when i opened the pc there was so much dust in there so i used the can air to get rid of it. THEN in my great brilliance (sarcasm intended :)) i thought "hey why not remove the processor and get at that dust too!" well..that was a mistake because when i went reseat it i damaged the pins and the pc shop said that one of the pins was broke. now i am waiting for the processor to come, it should be here by Wednesday i think. thank god this is an older pc and the chip was only $17. btw i'm not quite sure what i did wrong but when i had access to another pc clicked your link and saved the file then i copied it over to a cd, but there are 2 files on the cd is that how it's suppose to be or did i do something wrong? so i guess i'll post when the processor arrives and we can get to work.

Sorry to hear about the CPU problem. For the CD, did you use ImgBurn to create the bootable CD from either of the ISO files (Write Image File to Disc)? You don't burn the .iso files to CD, you use them as input to burner programs like ImgBurn, Roxio or Nero.

hi Ztruker, ok i downloaded it again and it was a rar file. when i unrar it there's so many files so what i did instead was opened image burn, chose Write Image File to Disc (like you said) and made the disc. i'm not sure if that is correct but i think it probably is because if i had to unrar it you would have told me. my processor will probably be here tomorrow and i can then try what you instructed me to do.. if i did the disc incorrectly let me know. thank you

Hi if you downloaded the file and it was a .rar then you almost certainly, downloaded the wrong file...... the rc is an .iso file format. download it from the link Ztruker provided and then use ImgBurn to burn it as an image, the disc you create by doing this will be bootable..set your BIOS to boot from CD as priority 1, and with the CD still in the CD tray, exit the BIOS.. saving the changes.....Your machine will reboot, hopefully allowing you access to the Recovery Console Regards paws

when i click on the link that is what i get, a rar file

In that case, the machine that you are using to access the link has been compromised with a browser hijacker of some type.
Do not rely upon that machine (the one leading you to a .rar file) until it has been thorough inspected and cleaned of Malware, by an authorized Malware Removal Speicialist.

Also, the owner of that machine should not use it for any online transactions, nor rely upon security of the machine in any way.
Particularly, the owner should change online passwords immediately... Using yet another (clean) machine or make the changes via telephone contact if related to banking, online purchases, or credit.

_______________

Once you have a clean machine, you will be able to access the file linked for you by Ztruker (the file name is rc.iso)

Do Not download, Do not Open, and do not rely upon any .rar file that you are offered when browsing to that link.
It is not the fault of the link.... The problem is with the machine you are using.

Once you have the rc.iso created as per Ztruker's instructions above, proceed with the rest of his recommendations.
Post back with your results and/or any additional Questions.

Best Regards

You will need the rc.iso "or" a full installation CD of XP Home (not a branded restore CD like you sometimes get when buying a PC) Most major manufacturers do provide Restore CD ( for a small fee), but most often those disks only have the ability to cause a complete New Installation, which will wipe out your existing documents, images, configuration, installed software, OS updates and the like. Therefore, using a full installation XP Home CD or the rc.iso linked for you by Ztruker is what you need. Either will allow you to select "R" allowing you to perform the Repair work instructed by Ztruker and should be harmless to your saved files, updates, applications, and configuration. As with any major computer repair work, it is a good idea to be sure that you have a complete backup of your important files and documents. Backup before beginning this or other procedures is the safest course of action. Best Regards

That's possible.

There is a longer method, by which you can create your own rc.iso.
It has been streamlined and automated by one of our Visiting Techs and is available at his own web site: http://artellos.com/arcdc-page

I've walked it through and it is safe, effective, and legitimate.
But for some, it seems a bit complicated. (i.e. easier to download and burn from the previously linked site where they already did all the work)

Have a look at his utility ARDCD.exe.
Use it if you feel comfortable doing so.

Note: About your machine persistently downloading .rar file... ??? That's a puzzle.

I've used the same link 3 separate times today spread over about 10 hours.
No problem. Each time it accomplishes download of rc.iso as expected.

Sorry about possible waste of your time in Malware Removal, but I do notice that you were able to remove at least one hostile trojan which may or may not have been involved in this present difficulty. You got good help from LDTate and I'm glad you took the time to complete his instructions.

On the machine with which you may eventually be downloading the rc.iso... consider the following.

Let's clear up any remnants in your Temp folders.
Go to this site (owned by one of our experts) to download ATF-Clearner.exe
http://www.atribune....c...5&Itemid=25 <-- here's the site to get ATF-cleaner.exe (sorry forgot and had to edit it in)
(the download link is in RED font on that page.
Read about the tool if you wish or simply run it using the "Select All" features.
Be warned that this will delete all automated username and password logins that you may have had your browser save for convenience.
My opinion is that these should be deleted anyway, but I'm giving you the information for your consideration in advance anyway.

Also select for Firefox, if you use that browser in addition to IE.

Now let's clear your DNS resolver (this service translates the browsable site name into its numeric IP address)
Sometimes DNS resolution gets corrupted and 'stuck" downloading the same unwanted file repeatedly.
Clearing DNS may free you up to get the proper rc.iso download.

Here's what to do:

Click Start - Run - (type)CMD - (press)enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Let us know if the above helped you download rc.iso
or
Let us know if you decided to use Artello's ARDCD.exe to create your own rc.iso

If successful with the above, continue on with Ztruker's instructions from above.

Best Regards
