Hi 919 Sorry I should have put in previous reply how the pc is running, It appears quicker and e-mail seems quicker as well. The true test will be tonight when traffic is busier and then I can give it a true comparison. It is certainly a lot slower since I upgraded AVG8. I dont know if this could be a factor Thanks "coohand"
Hi coolhand,
this may speed up things abit:

NEXT:
Make sure Internet Explorer isn't open

Run hijackthis again. Hit None of the above,
Click Do a System Scan Only.
Put a Check in the box on the left side on these: (Not to worry if not there)

Hi 919 PC is still very slow but i dont mind too much as long as I am safe, thank you for confirming that. www freeserve.com was originally the name of my ISP, it was then taken over by a french company "wanadoo" who inturn sold out to "orange". I have to go to work now so I shall be away for 7/8 hours. It has snowed here in suffolk,england and there is about 6/8 inches of snow so my journey should be fun, thanks once again, speak to you soon, "coolhand"
Hi coolhand
Lets see if we can speed up your pc now

FIRST:

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT

Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.

HERE:

For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
For the zipped version:

Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Finally a reg cleaner that works without paying to clean

after backing up do this next:

I recommend you download RegSeeker.Get it here:

HERE:

Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.
Talk about speeding up the PC?

Next:

Lets see if we can speed up your ie opening and closing:
Open your ie browser,
Go to Tools,/Manage Add-Ons /and disable everything, then close/reopen IE and see if it's acting better.
I will wait for your post back to let me know how it goes after this.

good luck mschroe919
Hi 919 Did exactly what you said with registry clean up, It scared me a bit, I had to do it three time and it found over 3000 items but all seems to be OK. It still slow loading up but I guess that could be because of start up programs. Pre- disabling "add on's" IE is definately quicker and the same when I open word etc. After I disabled the "add-on's" IE was as quick as I have known it. I can now say it is fast. Thank you "coolhand"
Hi coolhand,
[First of all I missed one here:

NEXT:
Make sure Internet Explorer isn't open

Run hijackthis again. Hit None of the above,
Click Do a System Scan Only.
Put a Check in the box on the left side on these: (Not to worry if not there)

O16 - DPF: {5EC7C511-CD0F-42E6-830C-1BD9882F3458} (PowerPlayer Control) - http://www.ppstream.com/bin/powerplayer.cab

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click Fix checked
Then reboot

good luck mschroe919

mschroe919
Hi 919 PC is getting faster, definately, completed all tasks. It still takes quite a while to load from start. It appears that "Zone Alarm" and "AVG" takes the longest or is that because they just finish last. Once on the PC is a lot quicker, thanks. Speak to you soon, "CoolHand"

====================================================================

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky.com/buyonline.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata….jsp?lid=nav_za

Sunbelt Kerio:

OutPost:
http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpostfree/download.php
================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
Happy surfing the net

I only ask one thing….please
Please post back and let us know what you think about our forum, we are all volunteers and would like a little smile.
