Hello Kenneth

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum,

All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at your own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

Why do you not have any anti virus software installed, here are some free ones, install just one. In this day and age, having no AV installed is kind of suicidal.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O23 - Service: KPNMDIV - Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com - C:\DOCUME~1\warren\LOCALS~1\Temp\KPNMDIV.exe

As I said it has taken me anout 30 minutes just to reply and copy the logs. Thanks
Hello Kenneth, No need to PM me, I am notified by email when you reply. Has your computer always acted like this or is just after the fixes? Exactly when did your computer slow down, after what fix, removing the entries with HJT, running Malwarebytes or after installing Avast????
Ken, The computer realy slowed down after installed avast anti virus and Malwarebytes anti malware. After I installed both fo them, I ran the malware remover. Then restarted the computer. When restarting, avast anti virus was running in the dos mode before windows would load. It ran a scan for over an hour. I kept a check on the % completed, and sometime after the 85% it just shut the computer off. When I came back to check the computer was completely shut down. Ever since that, the laptop has been running extremely slow. If you have any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Kenny
Kenny,

Lets uninstall Avast, it usually runs the scan the first time you install it, you can uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There was nothing Malwarebytes removed that would have slowed down your system.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<info.txt (<
Ken

The Computer is running a lot faster this morning. Maybe it was the malware remover. Here are the logs that you asked for. Thanks.

Hi Kenny,

The logs look fine, no malware or viruses that I can see

Heads up on these.

Warez
btdna.exe

I don't see them installed but they may have been at one time because your firewall is giving them permission to access the internet.

Warez
<–Used to download illegal software
btdna.exe <– File sharing, this will get you infected real quick.

Read this please.

P2P (File Sharing ) programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P program is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realise. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured program.

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/…ID-theft_1.html

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

Your Java is outdated and outdated versions let these type of infections onto your system, we need to update it.

Download the latest version Here save it, do not install it yet.

JRE 6 Update 12 <–This is what you need

  • Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java
  • Reboot your computer
  • Install the latest version
You can verify the installation Here

Your Windows XP Operating System is also out of date, it will let the bad guys in, you need to open up Internet Explorer and go to Tools> Windows Update and download and install ONLY CRITICAL UPDATES INCLUDING SERVICE PACK 3.

If you feel your system is still very slow, let me know and I can link you to some great windows support sites that deal with slow computers, we just do malware removal on this one.

  • How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
  • Tutorial for System Restore <– Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Safe Surfn
Ken
Ken, Thanks for the help. The laptop is running faster now. not as fast as my desk top, but a lot faster. If life gets any better for me, I might look into those classes. Thanks again, Kenny
