Recently I used F11 recovery because my laptop got a virus and I was told to do that.
So I did that and it seems everything works fine except one problem - whenever I try to uninstall any program, I get this message:
"Uninstall or change anapplication Microsoft Windows".
I am very scared that if I continue, I would get rid of Windows - my operating systems - and wouldn't be able to do anything with the laptop!!!
Am I right about that?
I uninstalled many other programs before (on other computers) and I never had such message.
Was that virus attack mentioned at the beginning so serious that despite using F11 there is still something wrong with my laptop?
Is it possible that if I continue to remove any program I will remove my Windows and make the laptop unable to work??
I'm using Vista. My laptop model is HP Pavilion dv6629ca Entertainment Notebook PC.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best regards,
pumex
Hi pumex,
I am sorry I am not permitted to assist you in this thread until you are cleared for Malware. You will need to be patient as there are hundreds of logs to analyze and not enough Malware fighters to assist. I have given you the link to post a gentle reminder to if you have not had a reply in 5 days.
Thank you for your patience.

Hi, guys,
I've just got a news from the Malware Team that they don't see any Malware problem at my laptop:
"The issues with your computer that you list, doesn't appear to be related to Malware/Spyware/Virus.
I suggest you post back in your other topic that the Malware Team doesn't see anything bad."
I'd like to update my situation. I checked the list of the programs on my laptop and found out, that the message appearing when I try to uninstall (saying that I will uninstall Windows - not the program I want to uninstall) comes with certain programs (e.g. Spybot), but not all - e.g. with MS Works I get the "normal" message that if I continue I will uninstall MS Works!
I'd like to make sure that it's OK for my laptop and that my Windows will not uninstall when I click on Continue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I am posting your thread in a private forum which you will not be able to see, asking for help from a Tech Team member to reply to you. Please be patient as none are online at present, but they will come by to reply to your last post in due time. This way we may be able to get a quicker answer for you
Its an interesting issue that you are having. However, as there is no "uninstall" feature for actually uninstalling Windows I would say that it would be impossible for you to "uninstall" windows.
It sounds like you performed a non-destructive recovery which keeps all your data in place. Most likely the programs you mention are damaged in one way or another due to the recovery. The best thing to do in this situation would be to reinstall the application that is having a problem (such as SpyBot) and then try uninstalling it again if you still don't want it. By reinstalling the application you would hopefully repair any broken registry entries or files to fix the uninstall problem you are having.
For future reference, it is always preferred to back up your important data to disc or flashdrive and then perform a "destructive" recovery of your system. This removes all data and software from the computer and starts you over with a "fresh" system that you can build on. This would eliminate all these software issues that you are most likely going to experience after a "non-destructive" recovery. Be warned that if you do a destructive recovery, you WILL LOSE all data and software installed on your computer since you purchased it. That is why you must back it up first.
Hi, appleoddity,
thanks for your interest in my case.
I'd like to update you by providing some more details.
First of all, I did the F11 recovery as I was told by the technician at the store to do that. I had a backup done before that. The programs I mentioned as examples of different "reaction" to uninstall request came with the "factory settings" (e.g., MS Works) or were downloaded and installed after performing the F11 recovery (Spybot).
As I didn't have any further help, I decided to use the laptop - I started to do that about a week ago. It works OK.
Still, I'm afraid of performing any uninstall for the cases where there was the strange message that I would uninstall Windows.
Thanks again!
Pumex
Pumex, go ahead and do the uninstall. It's very unlikely to do anything to the Windows XP operating system. Even if it did, you could always use F11 again to restore it. So, try it and let us know how it goes.
Also, you said you get the message "Uninstall or change anapplication Microsoft Windows". Is that the EXACT, COMPLETE message you get? Searching for it does not yield any results, which is why I'm asking this.
Rich,
Here is that strange message in full:
"User Account Control
Windows needs your permission to continue
Uninstall or change an application
Microsoft Windows
Details Continue Cancel
User account control…."
Should I be concerned if I get this message? As I said, for certain programs (e.g., MS Works) I just get the message that I would uninstall the program I really want to uninstall (i.e. MS Works not Windows). Why are there two kinds of messages?
Best regards,
pumex
