[Closed] Avast Trojan Virus - I need help please!

Let me start by saying I have no idea what I am doing, but I went to the new members page and followed all of the directions, step by step. I have Windows Vista and am using Avast. I keep getting Trojan Horse Viruses and the only thing I have done so far is "move the virus to the chest" and did a disk clean-up on my laptop. Here is the log of my registry. Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier

Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
Please do not run any scans other than those requested
Please follow all instructions in the order posted
All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.

I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Hi tymaca,

*Please note that as a Vista user you will need to right click and "Run as Administrator" to run the tools we will use.*

Please be advised that you have at least one infection that has backdoor capabilities. I strongly suggest you use a known clean private computer and change all passwords to any sites you log onto. This includes financial sites, forums, etc.

We will disable WINDOWS DEFENDER while we are cleaning your system.

Click Start > Programs > Windows Defender or launch from the system tray icon.
Click on Tools & Settings > Options.
Under Real-time protection options, uncheck the "Real-time protection" check box.
Click Save.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Security > Windows Defender, at the bottom of the Window Defenders page uncheck under Administrator Options "use Windows Defender" and then Save.

(When we are done, you can re-enable Defender using the same steps but this time place a check next to "Turn on real-time protection" check box.)

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. (See Extra Notes below.) They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
Right click on ComboFix.exe, click Run as Administrator & follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Extra Notes: To disable Avast

Right click the "a" icon near the clock
Highlight pause provider
click Standard Shield

I just clicked on the first link under "Combo Fix" and it was a virus! I am scared to click on any of the other ones now. It said it was a Trojan Horse!!!!!! I did purchase Spyware Doctor and it cleaned up 163 viruses that were on my laptop. Two of them were high risk. Now, I am not sure if I need to do anything else since I purchased that program.

Hi tymaca, I'm sure it's a false positive by Avast. Because of the behavior of some of the tools we use, AVs sometimes flag them as infected. Just hang on, I'll be back shortly. Thanks

Hi tymaca,

It's a false positive. You will need to pause the Avast Webshield in order to download combofix.

Right click the "a" icon near the clock
Highlight pause provider
click WebShield

Then carry on with the instructions.

Hi tymaca,

Looking better. You have some remnants of Norton (Symantec) left and a wee bit of malware left to remove.

Download the Norton Removal Tool from HERE and save it to your desktop.

Right click Norton_Removal_Tool.exe and click Run as Adminstrator to run the tool.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

Next, open HJT and do a system scan only. Checkmark the following lines if present

Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).

Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

Do not copy the word CODE

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Please post back with the OTMOVEIT3 log and a new HJT log. Please let us know how the computer is.

Hi Tymaca,

We will be using Combofix again, but we are going to run it a different way.

Please follow all previous instructions regarding security programs.

Open a new Notepad session

Click the Start button, click run
in the run box type notepad
click ok
In the notepad, Click "Format" and be certain that Word Wrap is not checked.
Copy and paste all the text in the code box below into the Notepad. Do Not copy the word CODE

In the notepad

Click File, Save as…, and set the Save in to your Desktop
In the filename box, type (including quotation marks) as the filename: "CFScript.txt"
Click save

Using your mouse left button, drag the new file CFscript.txt and drop it on the ComboFix.exe icon as shown below.

This will start ComboFix again.Close all browser/windows first.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box–do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.

Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.
