Hi there, Recently my computer has had popups and I have been informed by my spyware program that a malware virus has been trying to access a file, I quarentine it but it keeps coming back somehow. whenever I access the internet, I look at my history also and it shows strange websites such as abcjump.com, primosearch, blueseek, and many called "Jump" when trying to go to them they are ip addresses but i recieve a 04 error. I have included my Hijack this scan results and wanted to see if someone could help? Also If you see anything else that seems to be unsettling let me know, my computer has been shutting down and I have gotten the blue screen of death for the last two weeks. Hi countryman08,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

You need to notify them at Bleeping Computers that you are receiving help and have them close your thread there.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Thanks Tomk For your help. I have followed your instructions and here is the log text, I have also included it in an attachment if that is easier?

countryman08,

Let's get another scan.

Download Rooter.exe to your desktop

  • Then doubleclick it to start the tool
  • A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive%\Rooter.txt. Post that here
Thanks, Here are the results of that: Microsoft Windows XP Professional ( v5.1.2600 ) Service Pack 3 X86-based PC ( Multiprocessor Free : AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-52 ) BIOS : Rev 1.0 USER : Owner ( Administrator ) BOOT : Normal boot Antivirus : Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware 6.0.2.39 (Not Activated) Firewall : (Not Activated) C:\ (Local Disk) - NTFS - Total:142 Go (Free:120 Go) D:\ (Local Disk) - FAT32 - Total:6 Go (Free:4 Go) E:\ (CD or DVD) - CDFS - Total:1 Go (Free:0 Go) Tue 01/20/2009|15:11 ———————-\\ Search.. countryman08,

Limewire
You have Limewire, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun…protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554
http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles/art053.htm://http://www.techweb.com/wire/1605005…cles/art053.htm

I would recommend that you uninstall Limewire, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

You have a program installed called Reimage. I believe that it is "questionable". I recommend that you Uninstall it.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

c:\windows\system32\ds32gt32.dll <===this file

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    c:\windows\003203_.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\tcoloxzmbmvvm.exe
    c:\windows\system32\cont_snappyads-remove.exe
    c:\windows\system32\nso18.dll
    c:\program files\mozilla firefox\components\nssnappyads.dll

    Folder::
    c:\program files\Snappyads Games Collection

    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
    "AppInit_DLLs"=""
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{e3c329a6-9066-11db-a222-00038a000015}]

    Driver::
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Then

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

In your next reply please provide:
  • Jotti results
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Kaspersky report
  • New HijackThis log taken after everything else completed
HI there,

Thanks again, sorry the virus scan took almost 3 hours haha. I have done everything you said. The Jotti log showed nothing found on each program scan of the file, actually the file ds32gt.dll was the only one still on my computer. I could not find any signs of ds32gt32.dll.

The combofix.txt, I have pasted below, it seems it deleted the snappyads popup problem files:

Thanks again for your tireless help!
countryman08,

That doesn't appear to be a Kaspersky online report. Is that a report from you Kaspersky AV?

JavaRa …by: Paul McLain and Fred de Vries

Please download JavaRa (Copyright © 2008 RaProducts.org) and unzip it to your desktop.
***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***
Print these instructions…you won't have Internet access during this particular phase!
  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English or the appropriate language…and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the JavaRa log, in your next reply.

Then please run the Kaspersky Online scan per instructions in post #6 and provide report.
Hi Tomk, the link you gave didnt work for kaspersky, I went to their website to try to access the online virus check and it would not work, that is why Idownloaded the trail version and that is what I used previously. thanks again
One addition, I have noticed the snappyads popups are no longer there and my history is not showing those wack links yay! My question I think at this point is do you see anything in the new hijackthis log? And what about the ave maria mp3 and the other file found to have a trojan in them from the kesp.. I forgot the rest of the name virus scan? As well as the last two found with eset virus scan? Thanks for your help your a blessing
countryman08,

didnt the eset scan say that I have two viruses on my computer?

Sort of. It's actually the same virus but two locations. The first one shows the quarantine where we put it when we removed it. The second one shows it's in your system restore. If you were to do a system restore right now, you would reinstall it on your computer. We will set a new restore point and eliminate the old ones before we are done.

I believe you are still running Webroot Anti-virus. You need to uninstall Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.YOUR-19BD6A952B\My Documents\LimeWire\Saved\ave maria.mp3
may have been removed by your anti-virus but we need to check.

Using Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E), locate the following file and DELETE it (if still present):
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.YOUR-19BD6A952B\My Documents\LimeWire\Saved\ave maria.mp3 <–This folder

Now. None of this will account for a "blue screen". However, it doesn't appear to be malware related. Therefore I suggest that if you continue to get them, that you post a question to the Tech Team in the Windows forum. If you do that, please provide a link there to this thread.

Meanwhile, Log looks good :D

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will:
  • Implement some cleanup procedures.
  • Reset System Restore.

Please re-enable any security that was disabled.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
