I keep getting popups when I open, close or change IE browers windows. I have run Norton, AdAware, PC-cillin scan and HijackThis. I can't get optimizer.exe off my computer. There may be more problems that I don't know about. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Here is the Hijack log:

I am hoping someone can guide me in the right direction. I don't want to screw up my computer more than it already is!!!
This does not look like a complete log. Rescan and post a complete log.

THEN

Now let's see what we can do with it. First, open your Control Panel and click on the "Add/Remove programs" icon. If there are any programs you DO NOT BOTH RECOGNIZE AND WANT, DELETE THEM! (DO NOT delete your Windows and Internet Explorer updates, which are listed with a "Q" and a bunch of numbers.) Then reboot your computer.

Now, download and run Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning crapware off your system, and can also help prevent its downloading and installation in some cases. Links to both of these programs can be found in my signature at the bottom.

Download and install these programs in their own PERMANENT folders if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED.

To run Spybot S&D:

After installing first press "Online", click on "Search for Updates", then select all updates. Next, press "Download Updates." Beside the download button is a little down-pointed arrow, which gives you a choice of several download sites; select one of the servers listed (usually it's best to choose the site nearest you). If that site doesn't work or you get an error message, try a different server.

When the updates are finished, close your browser and ALL WINDOWS EXCEPT THE ONE SPYBOT IS RUNNING IN, then press 'Check for Problems'; THE SCAN WILL TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES. Have SpyBot remove all it finds THAT ARE MARKED IN RED. When it's finished, reboot your system.

Then, Run ADAWARE:

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate" button at the lower right of the panel. The current ref file should read at least 01R310 23.05.2004 or a higher number/later date. Updates for this program come out frequently to keep up with new malware. THIS IS CRITICAL; updating is as important as installing these programs.

Then ……..

Make sure the following settings are made and on ——-"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then……

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options ON: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then………

go to settings(the gear icon on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and click "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ………..then…….."Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then…… click "proceed" to save your settings.

To scan, click NEXT. This scan will also take several minutes.

When the scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press "next" and then say yes to the prompt, "do you want to remove all these entries?" Reboot again.

After you have run them, run HijackThis
Ziggyx, Thanks for all of the info. I will run the hijack scan again. I tried downloading the spybot s&d earlier, but the download never finished. After 30 minutes, it was still downloading – is that normal? I'll try that download again. Your instructions are very detailed (thank you very much). I will do my best to follow them exactly as you have described. Thanks again!
That is not normal. Try downloading from one of these alternate sites

http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10122137.html
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
http://www.tucows.com/preview/310138.html
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_desc…id,22262,00.asp
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

If none of those work please go to the link below and let it run

http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php

If that does not work

Please download and run SMARTKILLER tool: http://www.safer-networking.org/files/delcwssk.zip

This tool is a "Might Help, CAN'T HURT" type so dont worry if it doesnt fix the issue

If it does work reboot and run Cwshredder right away.

Then post a new log
I did all of the steps. Here is the new log:

What do you think of these files? Do I need to get rid of more stuff? Thanks again for all the help. BTW, I went to one of the other links you posted and it worked great. My IE comes through Mindspring(Earthlink) DSL if that matters.
I would like you to do an online scan, 2 would be better, I like these 2

Panda http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Choose fix or clean, let them do there job.

Then post a new log.
Okay Ziggyx,

I finally finished the last two scans. The Panda scan took a very long time, but it did find one "virus" which it was unable to remove. It is called "Exploit/iFrame". The website gave me instructions for removal which included turing off my system restore in all drives. I didn't want to to that until you had viewed my latest log. After the Panda scan (with the one virus), I ran the housecall scan – it did not pick up any viruses, etc. So here is the latest log and I would appreciate your advice regarding Panda's instructions on removal of the "Exploit/iFrame" vulnerability.

I think because I am running an older version of Outlook, 5.1, that I may have some holes open. I have, however, downloaded every patch that I am aware of. Can I upgrade to Outlook 6 or do I have to purchase a whole new program? Thanks again so much for all your help. The popups seem to be gone, although I haven't spent much time opening browser pages on IE because during all the scanning, ect. IE wouldn't open. It opens fine now. Here's the log:

It is hard to believe that I need all of the stuff that is running! Some items are listed as missing – is that important? Thanks again for your able assistance!
Okay, I ran the trojan hunter and it came up with 5 items, I removed them. I just ran AdAware this morning and it pulled 26 new spyware objects, removed those also. How does all this spyware keep getting on my hard drive? Anyway, here is the lastest hijackthis log that I ran this morning:

I can't imagine I need all of this stuff (at least 25% I have no idea what it is even about or why it is on my hard drive – of course others use my computer so…) Thanks again.
Well thats the nature of the beast. A small file is dropped in and until we get rid of it things will continue to be dropped in. Seems like we are working in different times zones as I am at work again but we can start clearing some of the items out now and I will look again when Im home with all my tools at hand.

Please run Cwshredder, make sure that you close all browser windows except the Cwshredder window. Choose Fix.

Run HJt again and put a check beside the items below then choose FIX.(some my be gone)

Did you install this program

The Weather Channel.exe

If not have HJt fix this

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Desktop Weather 3] C:\PROGRA~1\THEWEA~1\The Weather Channel.exe

You can also delete all of the 016 items, some are ok but some arnt, they are all activeX files that will downloaded if/when you go to those sites again.

Reboot and post a new log.
Hello again,

I tried several times/attempts to run pestpatrol. It simply would not scan. I tried the online scan, then I downloaded the program and tried that way too. So I don't know what that is about. I did remove all of the items that you mentioned in your last post.

I reran spybot and adaware, removed some more spyware and just ran hijackthis. Here is the lastest log:

I'm curious about this file:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Iinl] C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\iptl.exe

as I seem to remember the "iptl" showing up somewhere with the exploit file – I'm just not sure. Do you know what this file does? Looking forward to your next post. Thanks so much!
OK, just have HJT fix this one:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WNST] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnsapisv.exe

Reboot into SafeMode and delete these files:
HowToShowHiddenFiles - if needed

You may also have to bring up your task manager and stop this file from running -wnsapisv.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnsapisv.exe <—File

This one is suppose to be Trojan.Adware.BuddyLinks.A , have HJT fix it and delete the file.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Iinl] C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\iptl.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\iptl.exe <–File

For this one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZTgServerSwitch] c:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs

ZTGServerswitch is part of Sony's Vaio support agent - designed by Support.com. Not required if the user does not wish to use the Vaio support agent and regarded as spyware.

It's up to you, have HJT fix it and delete the file if you don't want it.

c:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs <–file

Reboot and post a fresh log, MrC
Thank you MrC for continuing to help me with my IE difficulties. Here is the lastest log:

I did not delete this file:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZTgServerSwitch] c:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs

I sometimes use the Vaio support to find things. If I delete this, will the vaio search function also be deleted? I just wanted to make sure. Also, do you have any idea why I couldn't get pestpatrol to run on my computer? My popups have already decreased quite a bit and I am feeling quite encouraged.

Thank you so much for helping me with this annoying problem! I am forever indebted! I look forward to your review of this latest log.
