[Resolved] Problems on Virus Removal

For the past week I have been getting help from this forum on the Antivirus 2009 infection that was going around - Previous Session.
We have gone through just about every removal tool - ATF-cleaner, ComboFix, daft.exe, MBAM, KAS, etc.

the computer is running fine, however, on issue remain - when I attempt to download an .EXE file, the computer saves it as an application that in 0KB in size, does not diplay the icon, and I cannot open it (an error message stating that it is not a valid Win32 application pops up).
I have been downloading from another computer and transferring the files via thumbdrive to complete the steps. I can, however, download other files such as mp3s with no problem.

You forgot to tell me you were able to post in the Malware forum now :thumbup:

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kamojasu.dll

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.


If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

Click "Start"> "Run"> type in Regedit tap Enter Key

Make sure "My Computer" is highlighted

Click "Edit"> "Find"
Type in kamojasu.dll tap Enter Key.
Right Click on the file if found and select "Delete"

Tap the "F3" Key to find the next entry of the file. Continue using the "F3" Key until it's finished searching.

Close Regedit.


Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The only way I can download the .exe files is through a different computer to thumbdrive tthen transfer to my computer. If I download any .exe file it shows as 0KB - when I try to save a .EXE as anything else (such as a .zip file) it downloads and shows as 1,700KB (whatever) but when I try to open it says I do not have permission to open. Any other file (e.g. jpg, mp3) I can download with no trouble

download the WinXP_EXE_Fix.reg file (right click on the link and choose the "save as" option in IE or "Save Link As" option in Firefox), and then save it to disk.

Double click on the saved REG file and see if it starts the registry editor and merges.

I do not have access to my other computer at the moment - and I cannot download the file - I do have a fixme.reg file - will that work or do I need the specific WinXP_EXE_Fix.reg ??

We need to get the latest version of CF.
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
    Be sure to update if it gives you that option.

    • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

    • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

      Note: Combofix will run without the Recovery Console installed.

    • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

    • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

    Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

    When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
    "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

    Notes:

    1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
    2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
    3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
    4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

    Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.
