[Closed] Multiple malware processes running, odd sounds

I've made a number of attempts to get rid of this thing, and it has manifested itself in slightly different ways at different times, but the main symptoms are:

-Multiple processes that appear in the task manager and cannot be stopped
-Files created in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 that I cannot delete except by going into safe mode. After I delete them in safe mode and go back into regular mode, they return within a couple minutes of booting, and then the processes start running again.
-I frequently hear the clicking sound effect that Internet Explorer makes when links are clicked. IE does not appear to be open.
-I sometimes hear fragments of random audio. Sometimes music, sometimes advertisements, sometimes people talking about random stuff (one time I got a part of an explanation of the concept of health insurance; another time, statistics about teen pregnancy in the US). These are a few seconds long and always incomplete.

I use Computer Associates (CA) antivirus software and Adaware.

When I first had this problem, I followed your instructions at http://forums.whatthetech.com/Before_Posti…elp_t57813.html

That seemed to fix it for a couple weeks. Then CA started repeatedly popping up notices that it had found and deleted an infected file… It would do this shortly after booting, and then if I kept the computer on for a couple hours or so, it would do it again. Each time, it would seem to have successfully deleted the infection; I tried doing scans with CA and with Malwarebytes, and they found nothing. I didn't see any unwanted processes running.

Tonight, the whole thing came back–processes, sound effects, and all. I scanned with Malwarebytes, and it came up with a great big list of trojan things. It deleted some and said it would delete the rest if I rebooted, but after I rebooted, it all came back. I tried some probably-pointless things including running scans while in safe mode and manually deleting the malware files. At one point I found a folder had been created: C:\Avenger. It contained the following files: msnaoed.exe, afsicx.exe, noytcyr.exe, tdydowkc.exe, wsldoekd.exe. I deleted the Avenger folder, and it hasn't returned.

I tried downloading IceSword, but then was disappointed to find that the site with detailed English instructions that had been recommended was no longer up, and I couldn't understand the program on its own. So I haven't used it for anything, but it's here on my computer if you want to tell me to do anything with it.

Right this minute, in Task Manager, I see that processes include msnaoed.exe and udxfytw.sys, which I know are part of this thing. Usually soxpeca.exe and mabidwe.exe are there too, and I've seen others.

Help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

hello

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply.
Hi, Rorschach, thank you for helping me!

I ran ComboFix, but my virus started doing its thing again right afterwards.

I downloaded ComboFix to my desktop. I disabled my antivirus software (via Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel as I couldn't find any other way to turn it off–nothing in the system tray), and I uninstalled Ad-Aware because it had a process running that, again, I couldn't find any way to stop. Then I ran ComboFix. It didn't prompt me to install Windows Recovery Console although the log says that I don't have it. It rebooted my computer once.

After ComboFix had finished running, I looked in Task Manager and saw that msnaoed.exe was running. Moments later, it was joined by mabidwe.exe, soxpeca.exe, and udxfytw.sys, and the clicking sounds started again.

Here's the log.

hello

Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for easy reference. Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum.

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer or from here.
