Hi,

Over the past several days, I noticed that when I go to CERTAIN websites, (ie: CelebrityCafe.com) my browser starts opening page, after page, after page on its own.

This does NOT happen on most other sites, but I KNOW it should NOT be happening. I changed certain Active X Controls settings in my browser to "PROMPT; but it's still happening on this same cite named above.

I use the REGISTERED version of X-Cleaner, and have had no problems with adaware, spyware, etc., for several years. I also use the REGISTERED version of Zone Alarm, and the CURRENT Norton Antivirus REGISTERED program.

My system is pretty well protected; therefore, I believe the cause of this strange browser behavior will show up in my HiJack This Log File indicated below.

Thanks in advance for your help. I anxiously await your input.

P.S. I also noticed that my computer has been running much slower.

Hi Hvnly777.

My name is revel and I will be working with you to resolve the issues you're experiencing.

As I am still in training, all of my instructions must be checked by one of our malware experts before they are given to you. Thus, there may be some delay in responding.

Before we begin, please review these important notes:
  • The fixes are specific to your machine and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you that your machine is clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't understand the instructions, please stop and ask for clarification before proceeding.
  • Continue to reply to this topic; do not start another.

Please be patient while I review your log. I will be back as soon as possible with instructions.
Hi Hvnly777-
Let's run a few scans:

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Scan
  • Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from >> Malwarebytes.org -<<
  • When the file is downloaded, double-click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure you checkmark Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform quick scan" then click Scan. This may take some time, be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click Ok, then Show Results to view the findings.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When this process completes, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to reboot. If a reboot is required, please save any open documents or work and then reboot.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in the program.

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from >> HERE << and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run the program.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (will be maximized) and info.txt (will be minimized)

In your next reply, please provide (copy/paste):
  • Malwarebytes' scan log
  • RSIT logs (info.txt and log.txt)
Hi Revel,

Thanks for helping me out with my problem.

Per your instructions, below I have pasted the RESULTS of the "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware," and the "random's system information tool (RSIT)" log files.

I will await your reply and intructions.

Thanks!

Hi again Revel,

Well, I'm having a problem completing the Kaspersky online scan.

Per your instructions, I disabled my Norton Antivirus, but, the scan would go no further than 5%. Therefore, I thought to disable my Zone Alarm Firewall, thinking that be interfering with the scan, but it would not scan passed 8%. By the way, this is after more than an hour and a half (11/2) passes.

At first, everything starts out fine, but then I see the SCAN CLOCK TIMER stop, and at the bottom, left side of my browser window I see the message: "Error on page." I should have typed out the message, but I can tell you that the error has something to do with JAVA.

I began by downloading the lastest JAVA version, and DELETING all of my older Java program files, as you instructed. I then ran HijackThis, and DELETED, (MADE THE FIXES), for all the files you indicated; however, as I said above, I cannot complete the Kaspersky Scan.

Here is the latest HiJackThis Log. Perhaps you can provide me some guidance on the "Kaspersky Scan" problem.

Thanks in advance,
Shani

Hi Hvnly777,
Since Kaspersky did not work, we'll try a different scanner.

Find Files
  • Open Windows Explorer, navigate to this location: C:\Program Files\Creative\Sync Manager Unicode\
  • Let me know if CTSyncU.exe is in that folder
  • Close Windows Explorer

ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Visit this link >> HERE <<
  • Check the box to accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • When asked to install the ActiveX control, allow the install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan. Be patient, the scan may take some time

  • Copy/paste the log in your next reply

In your next reply, please provide:
  • ESET scan results
  • Windows search results
  • update on how your computer is running please
Hi again Revel,

Below you will find the ESET scan results.

I cannot find any folder named: "C:\Program Files\Creative\Sync Manager Unicode\" :smack:

Otherwise, my computer seems to be running fine.

Well, that is for now.

Hi Hvnly777,
Sorry for the delay. We have just a bit more to do..
Back up your registry:

Download ERUNT
  • Double-click erunt_setup.exe to run the program
  • Follow the prompts to install (use the default configuration)
  • When setup is complete, launch the program
  • Choose a location for the backup. The default location is preferred.
  • Be sure to check all the backup options (System Registry, Current user registry, Other open user registries)
  • When prompted, click Yes to create a new folder
  • Progress bars will show the backup status
  • Click Ok at the prompt and close Erunt.

Next, please copy/paste the exact contents of the code box below into a blank Notepad text (do not copy the word CODE)
Note: Be sure there is no space above REGEDIT4 and a blank line after REGEDIT4.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\CTSyncU.exe]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\nwiz]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\QuickTime Task]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupfolder\C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk]

  • Click File>Save and name the file fix.reg
  • Under "Save as type," select All files and save the file to your desktop.
  • Locate the fix.reg file that you just created on your desktop. Double-click on it and allow it to merge into the registry.
———————————

In your next reply, please provide:
  • new RSIT log (only log.txt)
Hey Revel,

Well, I'm a bit baffled.

I downloaded ERUNT, and followed your exact instructions; however, I'm not sure the "fix.reg" merged into the registry. :smack:

Also, for some reason, RSIT is not providing me with a "INFO" text log; all it's producing is a "LOG" text. I uninstalled the initial RSIT download, rebooted my computer, and then RE-downloaded the program, but it's still producing only a "LOG" text.

Also, I did a "SEARCH" for all "rsit" files, and the search did provide a "rsit" folder, which had both the "info" and "log" text files, but that was from the 12th, which is the first time you had me run the program. I cannot find any folder or file which has a "INFO" log from today, the 15th.

Maybe you know what I'm doing wrong.
:pullhair:

Hi Hvnly777,
Sorry for the confusion! RSIT will only give you an info.txt the first time you run it. You provided exactly what I needed to see, log.txt.

Unfortunately, that fixme.reg did not work. Let's try it again please.

Delete the fix.reg file that you created before.

Open Notepad (Start > Run > type notepad). Notepad should open. It has to be Notepad not Wordpad.
  • Go up to Format and make sure that Wordwrap is unchecked
  • Copy/paste the exact contents of the code box below into the blank Notepad (do not copy the word CODE)
Note: Be sure there is no space above REGEDIT4 and a blank line after REGEDIT4.

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\CTSyncU.exe]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\nwiz]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\QuickTime Task]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupfolder\C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk]
  • Click File>Save - Before you click the "Save" button:

    - Name the file fix.reg
    - Save as type, select All files <– important
    - Save the file to your desktop
This is what it should look like: [external image: Posted Image]

  • Locate the fix.reg file that you just created on your desktop. Double-click on it and allow it to merge into the registry.
Note:You will receive a prompt to merge into the registry if this was done correctly.

Next, please double-click on RSIT.exe. Log.txt should open, please copy/paste its contents in your next reply.

In your next reply, please provide:
  • new RSIT log (log.txt only)
Revel,

Something is wrong because it's NOT working; even though, I know I'm following your instructions to the letter.

I clicked on "Start," "Run" and typed in the box "notepad."

A blank notepad opened.

I "copied" and "pasted" the entire text you indicated, (WITHOUT the word "code" on top).

I made sure there was NO space above the word "REGEDIT4," and that there WAS a blank line AFTER, and BEFORE the registry keys.

I clicked on "Save As," and changed the name FROM: "*.txt" TO: "fix.reg" (of course WITHOUT the quote marks); and then I changed the "file type" to "ALL FILES." Thereafter, I changed the "save location" from "my documents" to my "Desktop." (BTW, I did notice that the ENCODING is set to "ANSI." Is this relevant)?

I closed the notepad document, then double clicked on it, but NOTHING happens. I receive NO prompt, and all I see is the document text I just created.

I noticed in your last reply, you had typed at the begining: "fixme.reg"; is it supposed to be "fixme.reg" instead of just the "fix.reg"?

I cannot imagine what I'm doing wrong.

~SHANI~

:pullhair: :pullhair: :pullhair:

P.S. I did also make sure that "word wrap" was UNCHECKED!
Hi Shani
You're doing fine…

I noticed in your reply, you had typed at the begining: "fixme.reg"; is it supposed to be "fixme.reg" instead of just the "fix.reg"?

That was a typo on my part. It should be as the instructions suggested "fix.reg."

Question: When you saved the fix.reg to your desktop – did the icon look like this? [external image: Posted Image]

Download DAFT and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click daft.exe to run the program
  • Read the disclaimer and click OK.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • If it finds faulty file associations, they will appear in red beside a checkbox. Do not checkmark the items yet. Click Save Log and copy/paste it in your next reply.
  • If there is nothing listed in the box, close the program and let me know.
Revel,

The DAFT program indicated "No Errors."

Here's the log file…….

Wow, I'm really baffled!
