I have been trying to clean my system and improve performance, but I think I have gone as far as I can without help. I have followed the instructions of others and done the following:
Downloaded and Ran - ATF Cleaner
Downloaded and Ran - ComboFix (log is posted below)
Ran Hijackthis and uninstall_list (both posted below)
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware … I ran this for more than 12 hours and it didn't do anything, so I stopped it and decided to post whatever I have done so far to see if you can help me.

Also, I just added 1 GB of RAM to my system, bringing it to 2 GB. Still no improvement in performance.

Thanks in advance to whomever takes my case!!
BostonJohn

Hi Boston,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Combofix should not be ran without supervision.

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • [external image: Posted Image]

  • Click Start, then Settings, then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, Remove Hijackthis 1.99.1
  • Do the same for Java™ 6 Update 7 and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Then let's re-try Malwarebytes.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi TomK! Thanks for getting back to me and getting me started on cleaning up my system!! I have run ComboFix and saved the Log File. I also removed the 3 programs you told me to, but I will have to wait until tomorrow to download and run Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. I will send you the new info within the next day or so. Thanks again, BostonJohn
Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you. For some reason, with all that I was trying to do on my own to get my performance back up, I somehow disabled my wireless connection and had to get some help before I could get back on-line to post the scan logs you requested.
Also, you asked how my system is performing now…still real slow! Takes over a minute for an Internet Explorer window to connect, Firefox too. I am hoping that the log files will show you some things that we can fix!!

Thanks for the help, TomK.

BostonJohn

Boston, I need you to run OTMoveit3 with the script I gave you. That is the information in the little box. It looks like you tried to run it using the Kaspersky report for the script. Luckily, you just confused it. Please carefully copy/paste the information in the code box. Also, you have some contaminated emails. I cannot tell which ones. Please delete anything you don't need and/or recognize. Don't check any links contained in emails. After you have deleted everything, then please empty your deleted mail folder.
TomK, Sorry about the mix-up on the OTMoveIT3 file. I re-ran it as you requested and here is the new file: ========== PROCESSES ========== Process explorer.exe killed successfully. ========== SERVICES/DRIVERS ========== ========== REGISTRY ========== ========== FILES ========== File/Folder C:\Documents and Settings\Alessandra\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\36\710cee4-7a418aa9 not found. How do I know what e-mails I need to delete? I assume I will have to go through all 5 profiles to check…am I just looking at e-mails with attachements, or could the virus be embedded in the e-mail itself? I sincerely appreciate all the help on this!! BostonJohn
Boston, I can't tell which users mail it is. You are correct that it is probably an email with an attachment. Just make sure everyone gets rid of anything they don't recognize and/or need to save. How's it running now?
Hi Tom I hope you are enjoying your holidays! Overall, my system seems to be running much better! Thank You!!!! But Internet Explorer is still running like a dog…it takes over 2 minutes for a new window to open! I just clicked on a new tab and then checked Task Manager…it's using 235,000 K and 40% of my CPU !!! Can you help me fix this too? I am having the other family memeber go thru their e-mails and delete whatever doesn't look right…should I post anything once we think it is clean? Also, I have to start cleaning my laptop, now that we have the desktop pretty well set up. Show I post the Hijackthis file here for you to look at, or open a new thread? Thanks! BostonJohn
