Hi, my cousin recently clicked on a picture on some website while I was at work and he said a bunch of popups came up and he closed them out. I get home and notice I'm getting a lot of pop-ups, which for me is very rare. So I ask him if he clicked on something he shouldn't have and he said yes. Then I CTRL+ALT+DEL to check Task Manager and I noticed something running called "DWW" something. It was then when I realized I had a virus. So first thing I did was run HiJackThis and googled for Virus Removal forums. Hopefully you guys can help me. As long as I have IE opened pop-ups will eventually come (however oddly enough none have come up since I've started this post). Please excuse the sappy introduction I just wanted to explain the situation. Here is my HJT Log.

One thing to keep in mind is for some reason I can't startup in safe mode, so please don't suggest running a program or something in safe mode. It won't work for some reason. Thanks for the help ahead of time, it's much appreciated.
Hi, and Welcome to WhatTheTech :)

My name is jpshortstuff. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Hi :)

LimeWire
You have LimeWire, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun…protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554
http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles/art053.htm
See Clean/Infected P2P Programs here

I would recommend that you uninstall LimeWire, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

Viewpoint Media Player is often installed without the users permission. If you didn't install it, or if you did but you no longer use it, I recommend you get rid of it.

Please click Start >> Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.
Find the item below on the list and click Remove.
Viewpoint Media Player
Let me know how it goes.

Please download OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.

Hi jpshortstuff,

Thanks for all the help. So the symptoms of my computer are:
Just about every time I click a link to open a new window in IE it will take a while to load and I'll get a popup for a fake scanning anti-virus program. Every so often I CTRL+ALT+DEL, I'll see a process called Rundll32.exe but instead of it being under the "SYSTEM" user, it's under my name. I get popups quite often now in both Firefox and IE. Every time I start my computer up I get an error DLL message saying cannot load bakikore.dll. When I go to msconfig I go to startup and always uncheck all but every time I startup the following programs keep coming up:

Startup Item | Command
bakikore Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bakikore.dll" ,s
NvCpl RUNDLL32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
lidewiti Rundll32.exe "c:\windows\system32\lidewiti.dll" ,a

also there are a few more rundll32.exe's there but they don't keep coming up on startup..those are :

sikatodo rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\sikatodo.dll" ,b
lidewiti Rundll32.exe "c:\windows\system32\lidewiti.dll" ,a
bakikore Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bakikore.dll" ,s

and last but not least another sketchy looking one that doesn't start up but it still listed is:

Autorun "D:\AUTORUN\AutoRun.exe" "/2"
that one's sketchy because i don't actually have a D drive as far as I know.

I add/removed Viewpoint Media Player. And I did all the Java instructions. So those are the symptoms. Here are the logs you asked for:

I tried doing the online Kaspersky scan but it kept freezing up. I will try it again after my computer runs a little more smoothly (I hope).

If there's anything else you need from me let me know. Thanks again for the help.
Hi :)

Looks like this thing is being pretty stubborn, its time to bring out the big guns.

Download ComboFix by sUBs from here or here

Note: If you already have a copy of ComboFix on your system it is essential that you delete it before downloading this copy.

**Save it to your desktop**

We need to disable one or more of your security programs so that they do not interfere with ComboFix.

Please open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component (looks like this: [external image: Posted Image]) -> deselect the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.
When you need to enable the AVG Resident Shield, ( I'll let you know when) just open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component -> select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. If you are prompted to install the Recovery Console I recommend you go ahead and hit yes.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log

Notes:
  • Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
  • ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
  • Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you - please let me know.
  • ComboFix disconnects your machine from the internet when it runs. This connection should be automatically restored when ComboFix completes its run. If ComboFix runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

when my computer restarted because of combo fix it still gave me an immediate dll error bakikore.dll but i havent restarted my computer since combofix has finished so for all i know that could be a one time thing? i will repost in a few mins and give you an update on the situation of my computer. thanks
Okay, update: My computer seems to be running nicely. ComboFix did a wonderful job! I'm not getting any popups, my browsers are running like they used to, and I don't see any Rundll32.exe's in my task manager. I restarted my computer after the ComboFix auto-restarted it and made a log, and now I'm not even getting error run DLL's (bakikore.dll) anymore! As far as I know, my computer seems to be back to normal. Thanks a lot for your time. I ran ATF-Cleaner for Firefox and Main to assure no tracking cookies or anything like that stayed in my folders. So, if there's anything else you would like me to do let me know. Also, everytime I use HiJackThis, I never select any of them for deletion/whathaveyou. So if there are any listed that you feel need some sort of action let me know. So, if there's nothing else you would like me to do then thanks so much for your time and help. It means a lot. If there is, let me know and I'll get it done and let you know the results as soon as possible. Thanks jpshortstuff! and thanks sUBs (for ComboFix) !
Hi :)

Yes, that should have been a one-off error. We are definitely getting there, my thanks to sUBs also.

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.
2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{30fd71b1-c51c-11dc-8177-806d6172696f}]

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

Next, please try Kaspersky again.

Thanks.

I'll give you an update with Kaspersky in my next post. One last thing, under Add/Remove Programs there is a program called Mirar and when I go to remove it it gives me a popup to a program I have to download to remove Mirar. If you know any other better ways to get rid of it let me know.
Hi :)

After Kaspersky finishes, please do the following.

You need to disable TeaTimer, so that it doesn't interfere with our fix.

This is a two step process.
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, click once on Resident Protection, then right-click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For both versions :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go to the bottom of the vertical panel on the left, click Tools
  • Then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Open HijackThis. Hit Do A System Scan Only. Place a check next to the following items (if present):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9f610c3a-646e-4a2e-9877-e936fc431de2} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file)

Close all browsers and windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

I believe MalwareBytes' AntiMalware detects and removes Mirar, give it a go:
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Post that log back here.
Thanks.
