Hi eherrick, welcome to the forum.

Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Thanks
Hi eherrick,

Please Back up your registry with ERUNT
  • Download ERUNT from Here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click erunt-setup.exe to install the program
  • Follow the prompts and install using the default configuration (setup language, install location, shortcuts…).
  • Click No when you are prompted about creating an ERUNT entry in the startup folder.
  • At the next screen, uncheck Show documentation and check Launch ERUNT
  • If ERUNT doesn't start by itself, launch it from the desktop shortcut.
  • Choose a location for the backup

The default location C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\[today's date] is preferred
  • At the configuration screen, make sure all 3 checkboxes are checked
  • Click Ok to run the backup process
  • When prompted, click YES to create a new folder.
  • Progress bars will show backup status.
  • A confirmation window will popup when complete. Click OK to close.

Download and save to your desktop
  • ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
  • RSIT by random/random
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Note your computer may boot a little slower the first couple of times.

Next double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Please post the malwarebytes log in your next reply.

Finally for now
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (will be maximized) and info.txt (will be minimized)

Note: These logs will open in notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.

Please post the MBAM log and both RSIT logs in your next reply. Please tell me how your computer is at the moment.

Thanks
Good afternoon
I have completed the list of things to do to the best of my understanding. Not sure about the Malwarebytes portion.
I believe you have asked me to post the results of my last Hijack this. Here they are
Thanks again for your help in my computer problems.

Hi eherrick,

It's important that these programs be downloaded and saved directly to your desktop. It looks like RSIT may have been ran from a temporary location, let's remedy that. You can click the images to make them larger.

Click this link RSIT

When the File Download box pops up Click Save
📎save.JPG
A Save AS box will then appear
  • Set the Save In box to Desktop
  • Click Save.
📎saveas.JPG

Next Go to ADD/Remove programs and uninstall these programs

RON Tool Offersfortoday
Search Assistant Searchersmart

Now we'll do a little cleaning up then continue.

Click the Start button on the lower left of your screen.
  • Click run
  • The run box will appear, type clnmgr, click OK
📎clnmgr.JPG
Check all the boxes and give it time to complete, the continue with the rest of these instructions.

Next, download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware the same way you did RSIT.

Here's the instructions for installing, updating and running the program. Just follow the steps in order.

Next, double click the RSIT icon on your desktop to run it. Only a log.txt will be produced this time. Please post it along with the log from MBAM.

Thanks

Good evening Thanks again for the help I did remove the two programs. I could not download RSIT from you link in the last message. I went back to the link in an earlier message from you and believe that I successfullly downloaded the program. I am unable to find clnmgr on my computer. Where is that program from ? Is it from RSIT? Since I could not find clnmgr I have not gone further with your instructions. Thanks again for your patience I will look forward to further instructions Thanks Eherrick
Hi eherrick,

I did remove the two programs.
I could not download RSIT from you link in the last message. I went back to the link in an earlier message from you and believe that I successfullly downloaded the program

Good job, sorry about the link.

clnmgr is a command that will access the cleanup utility build into Windows . We'll try it again, but this time type this command instead
cleanmgr

After it has finished please procede with the rest of the instructions.

Thanks
Thanks Not knowing you and not wanting to be disrespectfu I don not want to address you as old man. Anyway your help is greatly appreciated and I will followup your instructions this evening. I will report back then Eherrick
Good evening I have successfully run cleanmgr, downloaded MBAM, and run and I am posting the MBAM log. I believe that I have completed all of your prescribed steps. Hi Eherrick, Don't worry about being disrespectful. I've been called oldman for so many years, I think it's actually my name. :) Please finish the rest of the instructions by running RSIT and posting the log that it produces. Thanks
Good evening
Here is my current log from RSIT
Thanks again

Hi Eherrick,

This is looking better.

Open a new Notepad session by
  • Click the Start button, click run
  • in the run box type notepad
  • click ok
  • In the notepad, Click Format and be certain that Word Wrap is not checked.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy)
Do Not copy the word CODE

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
""=-

  • Right click in the notepad and select Paste
  • Click File, Save as…, and set the Save in to your Desktop
  • In the filename box, type (including quotation marks) as the filename: "myfix.reg"
  • Click save
This will create a myfix.reg file on your desktop with an icon like this [external image: Posted Image]

To use this file you will need to right click the icon and select merge, accept the warning if it appears.

Then, Go here to run an online scannner from ESET:
http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner

(Note: You must use Internet Explorer for this scan.)

  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Disable your Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock (see extra note below)
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is Checked.
  • Click Scan.
  • Wait for the scan to finish.
  • Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  • A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. We will need this later.
Please post back with the ESET log and a new HJT(hijackthis) log.

How's your computer?

Thanks

Extra Note
How to disable Mcafee antivirus (remember to re-enable it after the online scan has completed)

MCAFEE ANTIVIRUS
Please navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for a [external image: Posted Image] sign.
  • right-click it -> chose "Exit."
  • a popup will warn that protection will now be disabled. Click on "Yes" to disable the Antivirus guard.
You succesfully disabled the McAfee Guard.
Good evening Old man I have created the myfix notepad file I have tried to download the ESET software. For some reason when I check accept and then try to start I get an error screen and cannot get any farther. The address on the screen that I get is the following "http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner?i_agree=14" IT says HTTP 404 not found. Obviously I have not gotten to the point of disabling the Mcafee antivirus but looking forward to that step I am a liitle in the dark on that process. I do not have an Icon at the bottom of my screen that looks like the one you describe. I have an icon that appears like a red V with white background and outlined with blue. As always thanks for your help For your information I am not getting any of the crazy popups that I was getting when I first contacted you. Actually I cannot tell that anything is wrong with the computer now at all. It still is a little slower than it was when it was new but no slower than it was before I realized I had spyware. I will look forward to your response Thanks Eherrick
