Hey everyone. My name is Anders and im new to this site. I desperately need some help. When im online i get an error message which says something about Win32 Generic Host Process. I click the do not send error report and my start bar at the bottom of the screen flashes then i get disconnected. However, it indicates down the bottom right of the screen that i am still connected!! I was told to download "hijack this" and post a log file in this forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi anders!,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click Advanced mode if not already selected.
  • Choose Yes at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the Tools menu.
  • Click Resident.
  • Uncheck the Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active. box.
  • In the File menu click Exit to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Next

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hey Tomk, Thankyou very much for the help. I will follow these instructions as soon as a get home from work. The computer behaves normally. There is nothing wrong with it at all ! Until you go on the internet. Last night when i was online, it was booting me off more that it has in the past couple of days. I was struggling to get 5 or 10 minutes. Also, last night i attemted a system restore, all went smoothly until the reboot. Once it got back into windows, it said it could not restore the system to the date that i selected. Wierd. Thanks again for your help!!! Anders
anders!, Your problem may or may not be malware related. We will do a couple scans to see what is going on. If I can't find anything, I'll send you over to the Tech forums to see what they can do.
Tomk, I have done something to my computer which i have to fix before we can take this any further. I out my hdd in a friends computer to back up some of my files incase i needed to format. When i put my hdd back in my computer i also replaced the sata cable. I turned my computer on and it started booting up, just after it got to the windows screen, a blue screen poped up with yellow writing, im not sure what it said, as it only appeared for a split second. It then reset it's self, and began the boot process. I tried putting the windows disc in to format it, or just reinstall it. But it would not boot from the cd either. The part that i could not understand was that it would boot up in safe mode with out a problem, all the way into windows !?? Hmmmmmm. So i will see what i can do, then get back to you. Unless you have any suggestions. Thankyou very much for your time Tomk, i really appreciate it. Anders
anders!, This may be a good time to close this thread and have you open one in the windows Tech forum. People there will be better suited to help you than I am. If after you get running, if you think you have a malware problem, you can post a new HijackThis log in this forum. What do you think?
Tomk, Yeah, i reckon that might be the way to go. Well thanks for you time and help. You will probably hear from me soon!!! Take care Anders :wavey:
anders!, Good luck. When posting in the windows forum, please provide a link to this topic in case there is anything here that will help the Tech Team.
