This is both my initial Log file and Startup list. I copy and paste each code into internet and get good info but not whether data is necessary or bad. Can you recognize from your experience which of these can be deleted and which ones can't? Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

    Submit a file to Jotti
    Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste this filepath in there.
If theres is more than one file to scan, insert them 1 at a time.

    C:\WINNT\System32\hemlp.exe

    Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

You may recieve a message stating "
"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

Just let me know if that is what you saw.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
    http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html

    • A new HJT log
    • The report from Malwarebytes
    • The report from Combofix
    • The report from Jottis/Virus total
Thanks Bob4, After several starts and stops I finally have my results attached. I pasted the file path listed in your reply into Jotti but I got the error message so I opened the folder to feed in one file at a time. There were many folders and files inside so I feed them one at a time as many as I could. The scanners displayed the "found Nothing" message on all the files. The Jotti program did not provide a report other than what was on the screen. What do these results tell you? This is really a cool program…Thanks again Bob4 📎mbam_log_2008_11_20__06_47_20_.txt 📎HJT_Log_112108.txt 📎ComboFix_log_112008.txt
These scans told me you were infected but things look much better now. A thing or 2 to do and 1 more scan to be sure we got eveything.

RUN HJT

Run hijackthis and choose scan only and place a check by the following lines if present.
Close all other windows and browsers except HJT before clicking on Fix Checked

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

Close that.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File:
C:\WINNT\System32\hemlp.exe

Registry::

"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecAntiVirus]
"DisableMonitoring"=dword:00000000

NOTE: This script was done for this user specifically.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE IT IF YOU ARE NOT THIS USER
YOU WILL HURT THE WORKINGS OF YOUR COMPUTER !!
.

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:ComboFix.txt which I will need in your next reply.

In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • The report from ComboFix
  • The report from Kaspersky
  • What's in that folder c:\winnt\11-16-2008 ?
Thanks Bob4, I'm new to this forum and when I got the CLOSED sign I thought I needed to begin another thread, sorry, I will stay with this one. I will follow these instructions and post the results, unfortunately my computer will not boot up for whatever reason. I need to take it to the shop. When it comes back I can continue. Should only take a couple of days. Will this thread remain open? Again thanks for taking the time to help me with this, it was running better just before it went down so we must have made progress.
Things are going to change drastically when it goes to the shop. I will leave this topic open for 5 days from today. Keep in touch as best you can.
