Hey. BitDefender keeps telling me that a virus called Trojan Generic.1098617 is infecting my computer and cannot be cleaned.
Here is where BitDefender tells me this jerk is.

System]=]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\EXPLORER\BROWSER HELPER OBJECTS\{FBE56C34-1B55-4871-BCD2-BFB009CCF277}=]C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DDCDTUKA.DLL

Also, i canot enable Windows Update. I get error 1058. I tried to enable following this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241584 no luck. After I hit automatic then start, it will not "start".

Much thanks……

Hi wishing4one,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
I cannot disable Bitdefender. i went to link about disabling Antivirus programs, but nothing for BitDefender. I went into general settings in Bitdefender and unchecked LOAD AT STARTUP, rebooted, but it still started and in right tray. I tried to run combofix anyway, this is what happened… A window called -PARASITES FOUND- saying "The following files were trying to attach to combofix. They shall be diasabled…Kindly note the name of each file" C:\program Files\BitDefender\Bit Defender 2009\BitDefender Inner Fire\midas32-v1_7\midas32.dll C:\program Files\BitDefender\Bit Defender 2009\BitDefender Inner Fire\midas32-v1_7\plugin_extra.m32 C:\program Files\BitDefender\Bit Defender 2009\BitDefender Inner Fire\midas32-v1_7\pluginfragments.m32 C:\program Files\BitDefender\Bit Defender 2009\BitDefender Inner Fire\midas32-v1_7\plugin_net.m32 C:\program Files\BitDefender\Bit Defender 2009\BitDefender Inner Fire\midas32-v1_7\plugin_registry.m32 Then another wondow popped up called -ROOTKIT!!- It said "Combofix has detected the presence of rootkit activity and needs to reboot the machine" I clicked OK. Then while shutting down antoher window popped up called -DW20.EXE DLL INITIALIZATION FAILED- Saying "The application failed to initalize because the window station is shutting down." So I think i MUST disable BitDefender Internet Security 2009 BEFORE and in order to run Combofix….help !!!
wishing4one,

Please try to run this scanner.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok my system seems to zip right around now, not lagging when i minimize windows or choose items from Start, Programs. I will investigate some more to be sure.

*** Here are the MBAM log results, i did have to reboot to delete some files as you said.

wishing4one,

Let's try running ComboFix again. We will start it differently.

Go to [external image: Posted Image] -> Run -> copy/paste the following single line command in the runbox & click OK

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

[external image: Posted Image]
  • DO NOT USE your computer for any other purpose while ComboFix is running.
  • ComboFix may restart your computer, this is normal.
  • When finished, it will produce a log, ComboFix.txt.
  • Please post ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
