Hi, and Welcome to WhatTheTech :)

My name is jpshortstuff. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Let's have a look at your system.
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<info.txt (<
Thanks.
Great and thanks for your help, here are the results. Also when I log into forum what is the fastest way to find my post?

I thought of one more thing, my problem started either 10/24/08 or 10/25/08 , perhaps this info helps you ? I did try a system restore prior to that point but since the malware was on my computer this did not work, now I am not able to do any system restore prior to that point 10/25/08
Hi.

Viewpoint Manager is often installed without the users permission. If you didn't install it, or if you did but you no longer use it, I recommend you get rid of it.

Please click Start >> Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.
Find the items below on the list and click Remove by each one.
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player
Let me know how it goes.

I notice you have Registry Mechanic on your computer. Although the program isn't malicious, there is much debate about whether registry cleaners actually help your computer's performance or whether they cause problems. I just want to make you aware that programs like that don't always do what they say on the tin. If you wish to get rid of it, you can remove it through Add/Remove Programs.

Open HijackThis. Hit Do A System Scan Only. Place a check next to the following items (if present):

Hi.

Let's try something a bit different.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Post that log back here, along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks.

Hi. You are using a very old version of HijackThis, and you are also running it from a .zip folder, meaning backups won't be saved. Please use the HijackThis.exe found in this folder: C:\Program Files\trend micro Run it, and post a log in your next reply. Thanks.
I'm struggling with opening up highjack this.exe

Is this the proper log?

Are you still having all the problems you mentioned above?

Let's try running Panda since Kaspersky didn't work.

Please run this online scan:

Panda Activescan

  • Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open…click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log.

Thanks.
So Sorry …..for the past 15 minutes I have tried the Panda Scan The program goes from running to not responding every 5 seconds( as shown in Windows task manager) this continues indefinately . What should I do now?
Hi :)

None of your symptoms sound like malware and your logs look clean, there seems to be some more technical issues at work here. I am only here to deal with any malware issues you may have. Luckily, this is not the end of our expertise here at WhatTheTech. We have tech helpers working in other areas of this site that will be more than happy to assist with the other problems that you are experiencing.
So, I recommend you start a new topic in one of the following forums:
Microsoft Windows
Browsers, Internet and Email

Describe what problems you are having, and include a link to this topic so they can see what has already been done.

The response time over there is usually very good, and you should be receiving expert help from one of our advisers shortly.

Before you go though, I see a couple of security issues that I should point out.

You don't appear to be running any third party Firewall software.

Install a firewall! Without a firewall you are very susceptible to being hacked, and people could gain access to your computer. If you don't have a firewall I strongly recommend you download ONE of the following:
1) Comodo
2) Agnitum
3) Sunbelt/Kerio

You need to upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 3. Keeping your Windows up-to-date is crucial to your computer's security. Please go to the Windows Update Site (using Internet Explorer) and download and install Windows XP - Service Pack 3.

I am sorry that I couldn't help you, however as I say, I do not think these issues are Malware related. I hope that you find a solution to your problem soon whether it be by out Techies or from another source.

Thanks.
