Hi Sherri37, Welcome to the forums![external image: Posted Image]

My name is Ken, on these forums I am known as ktreffin. I will be helping you with your current problem. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

You are using an older version of HijackThis. The first thing I would like for you to do is to update it, and post a fresh log for me to review:

Step #1: Update HijackThis

You aren't running the latest version of HijackThis. Please update it and post a fresh log.
  • Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

After you have updated HijackThis, please do the following:

Step #2: Please make an Uninstall List using HiJackThis.

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

As we work together to resolve your problem, please read these instructions carefully. You may wish to print them off or copy them to Notepad.

Lastly, please keep these points in mind:
  • If you have questions, please DON'T hesitate to ask!
  • The instructions I give are specific to your current problem and should not be used on other systems.
  • Please post your replies only to this topic, and please DO NOT start a new thread.
  • Since there may be multiple issues with your system, please continue to follow this thread until I have given you an "All Clean!"

Thank you for your patience.

Ken

Hi Sherri37,

It does appear that you are infected. Before we begin, I need to stress some important points to you.
  • Some of the instructions I will provide may get quite long. I highly recommend that you print a copy of them off or copy them into Notepad.
  • If at any time you have questions, please DON'T hesitate to ask!
  • Please keep in mind that the instructions I give are specific to your current problem and should not be used on other systems.
  • Also, please remember that there may be multiple issues with your system, please continue to follow this thread until I have given you an "All Clean!"
Ready? Lets go….

I see that you have Norton installed, however it does not appear to be enabled (running). Have you disabled this on purpose? Do you have an icon next to your system clock that indicated that Norton may be disabled?

We need to see if we can get that up and running, but I just want to make sure that it hasn't been disabled by you.

I do see a few things in your log which require attention. Please do the following:

*==============================================*

Step #1: Remove malware lines using Hijack This

Please start HiJackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on "Do A System Scan Only".
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries by clicking on them:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSServer] rundll32.exe C:\Users\THEBEY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\fccbXpnl.dll,#1
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cmds] rundll32.exe C:\Users\THEBEY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\khfEXool.dll,c
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [2eb80a4c] rundll32.exe "C:\Users\THEBEY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\qwrigukf.dll",b

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HIJACKTHIS and click on "Fix Checked".

Once complete, please exit HiJackThis.

*===============================================*

Step #2: Download and Run OTMoveIt3

Download OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    :Files
    C:\Users\THEBEY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\fccbXpnl.dll
    C:\Users\THEBEY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\khfEXool.dll
    C:\Users\THEBEY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\qwrigukf.dll
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
  • If you are not asked to reboot close OTMoveIt3.
  • A log C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log will be created (where mmddyyyy_hhmmss are numbers giving date and time the log was created).
*===============================================*

Step #3: Download and Run ATF Cleaner

*===============================================*

Step #5: Things to put in your next reply

Please post the following in your next reply:

Still have some nasties showing, please do the following:

Step #1: Download and Run ComboFix

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Step #2: Things to put in your next reply

Please post the following in your next reply:
  • A New Hijack This Log
  • Contents of the ComboFix Log (C:\Combofix.txt)

By the way have I told you recentley how much I appreciate your help??

By the way have I told you recentley how much I appreciate your help??

LOL….No problem. I am glad I am able to help you.

How are things running? Have you noticed any difference yet?

Your HijackThis log is looking better.

We still have a couple of other things to do, but it looks like we are making improvements.

Step #1: Update Java using JavaRa

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.

Note: Update 10 is also available if you prefer. It does not, however, include any security updates. Update 7 is available at http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/6u7/index.html

*===============================================*

After you update Java, Please do the folowing:

Step #2: Run Kaspersky Online Scan

Please go to Kaspersky website to perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to your desktop by changing the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Now close the window.

*===============================================*

Step #3: Things to put in your next reply

Please post the following in your next reply:
  • Let me know how things are running.
  • The contents of the JavaRa log
  • Contents of the Kaspersky Online Scan Log
  • A New Hijack This Log
Thanks,
Ken
Ok pop ups have decreased. I do keep getting one called liveupdate and I'm not sure if it is legit or not Now for the logs…..alright here goes

And again….thanks so much!!!!
I am glad to hear that things are improving. LiveUpdate is related to Norton. It is the Norton update service. I would suggest that you open Norton, and check for any available updates through the program itself. That way you will be sure that it is legitimate. Once you get Norton updated, then the Liveupdate pop-up should stop….Let me know if it continues.

Were you able to install the latest version of Java?

Your HijackThis log still shows a very old, outdated version being used. This is a security risk, and should be taken care of.

If you go to this link:
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/6u7/index.html

Please choose: "JRE 6u7 includes the JVM technology"

Follow the installation instructions that are given on that page.

Once you get Java updated, please post a new HijackThis log.

Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Thanks,
Ken
Hi Ken,

Hi Sherri,

Ah ha….I think I found the problem:

Looks like you posted the same log….

Last one you posted:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

And the one you posted before that:

Can you please run HijackThis again, and make sure you post a new log?

Thanks,
